Yes. It's considered a form of elder abuse/non physical non-emotional.

Financial or Exploitative abuse:

Financial or exploitative abuse is defined as the illegal taking, misuse, or concealment of funds, property, or assets of a vulnerable elder. Financial/material exploitation accounts for 30% of all cases of abuse Exploitation includes the unexplained disappearance of funds, valuable possessions, changes to wills or financial documents.

Thanks St Claire and JBN,

i have another question.

During the 24 hour urine collection, if the patient accidentally spills some amount of urine from the urine collection container.

will the 24 hour urine collection still be continued ?

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Depends on the study, technically it needs to be restarted but there are exceptions depending on the diagnosis/test/facility protocol & sensitivity of the test.

For the NCLEX the study will be dc'd and restarted.

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.

Not only is it elderly abuse it's illegal and is called theft and the person who does this should go to jail.

If the 24 hr urine spills...the collection needs to start over.
