Hi. has anyone ever done a color run? bunch of kids playing in a field squirting each other with a base of maize starch and food coloring mix and they laugh and have tons of fun, then go home..
anyone ever doe this? my concern are my asthmatics with inhaling a powder ....
I hate that kids cant have any fun anymore, HOWEVER the nurse in me...well?
I am moving forward with the color run, we will provide facemasks and the kids need to bring in either a pair of swimming goggles or eye wear of some sort. I will have extra for those who don't bring them.
There are so many things that kids nowadays will never experience because we have such a litigious society. Birthday parties in school, Valentines day in school has become nothing but a small card with your classmates name and your name (and don't sign" Love, your friend")...not even allowed to give a stinkin pencil...
they need fun..we had fun in school, why can't they.
I agree the face masks and goggles are a good idea for protection. I can't imagine a lung doctor thinking it's a good idea to inhale any sort of powder even if it is a natural substance.
I had a friend who doesn't even have asthma that lost her voice for over three months after participating in a color run.
The doctors couldn't guarantee her voice would return and she started to get very scared but it finally did.

Maybe getting medical advice from a local ENT or lung specialist is a good idea for the school. I'd be concerned with liability.
(I'm not usually a Debbie Downer . . . just the last few days have made me more aware of lawsuit stuff).

I am not a school nurse - but why can't asthmatic children run and play. My 15 year old son was born with asthma and suffered from it until he was in fifth grade. I never kept him from any activity and when he had an exacerbation early in his fifth grade year a MMA coach would take him every day. His asthma went away completely within two weeks and he has not had an attack since. When I asked the coach what he did that man who was an Army Ranger in another life told me "With all due respect mam, I taught your son how to breath."
His inhaler is gathering dust on the shelf.
