A blow to my self-esteem...

Published

I just found out that I finished this semester with 2 A's and 2 B's, but my term GPA wasn't high enough to get me on the Dean's list. My GPA was a 3.46 (for this term, I have a 3.5 overall). I needed at least a 3.5 to make Dean's list for this term. I made it last semester. This isn't what upset me though...

My mother says she is "disappointed" that I didn't make Dean's list this semester and seems to think that it will "ruin" my chances of getting into the BSN program at my school. I then had to explain to her that they base admissions on your GPA and test score, not how many times you made Dean's list.

What do you think of these comments & how would you deal with them?

I think Dean List correlates with ur grades. So if u had been on the Dean List then u would have been having higher grades. You mom is just saying, she knows ur potential and u should have been on the dean list. She is disappointed u ddn't, coz if u had ur chances would have been better compared to you not being on it because being on it means u have slightly better grades than what u have now. However, do not worry about whats done and dusted.

I think that no one will care once you are a nurse. Let it go.

Your mother cares about the success of her child as any parent should. However, missing Dean's list once isn't the end of the world. That being said, do you feel you slacked off somewhere hence your just missing the list by that small fraction? Even if this is the case you can't be perfect and pressuring yourself too much will make you crash and burn. Just relax and do your best.

With a 3.46 you should have made your mother's list.

When you do not get the qualitative grade you want, disregard it and go with the quantitative grade.

I went to one school where 92 - 95.9 was a 'B'. I always went with the quantitative grade. :)

Tell her "If everyone in nursing school made the deans list every semester, Parking would be a lot easier but school would be closed due to the lack of attendance".

-no offense to current students.
