Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Ok, no one has started this yet, so I guess I will. I start A&P I on January 18th, lab and lecture.

Here are a few good websites I have found...some are basic, some may be more indepth than your instructor asks for.....BUT it gives you a little more to look over before class starts next month! :) ....Never forget the website for your actual book too!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU

I forgot to mention my horrible "school" dreams on Monday night! :imbar OMG! I was so relieved when I woke up @ 5:30. I was nervous about it because the kiddos don't start school til 8:30 and we only live 2 minute away--so we sleep til 7:30 usually. NOW I have to leave for class by 7:15- to get to class before 8:00. I can't risk hitting AM rush hour.

I am a SAHM turning full time student next month. I have my 4 year old in pre-K and found a REALLY good daycare (I went to so many and finally found one that suited all my needs) for my 1 year old. He starts on Monday. So this week we have been practicing being up real early, 6am, and trying to get out of the house by 7:15. Once my full time schedule starts up next month I'm going to have to get these 2 kids to where they need to be, and be in class all by 8am. Ugh. This is going to be tough. And they are both right by MY school, and my hubby works across town, so he isn't able to take them. Now, on clinical days he's going to have to, and he helps get them both ready and in their corificeats with me. But life is going to be so difficult for the next 2 years.

I've been crying about it all week. :crying2: I know this is worth it, and I'm going to be so happy with my accomplishment in the end. BUt I really have to get used to this on the run mentality.

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

You are going to be fine.

You've already found a great daycare. :)

That's a start.

Kate

Specializes in Operating Room.

I am so glad both of my kiddos are in school, it was always hard to study when they were at home and younger. Today, my hubby has been gone all day working, so I've spent 90% of the time studying, 6% doing the accounting for hubby's biz, and 4% in here! LOL

Now, back to studying! :)

Third week into the semester and I have FOUR tests scheduled for next week in A&P I, Lab, Statistics and Human Development. Not worried about Statistics. Either I'll know how to use the calculator or not. Human Development is not a problem since I've taken Child Development previously. I'm specifically worried about the part of the A&P test that covers cells and the more complex chemistry bits, and the Lab. Long list of parts to memorize. Maybe that's why I haven't been able to sleep? Eat dinner and then back to the books.

EWWWWWWE! I'd hate to have 4 tests in one week!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!! :)

:chuckle OKay---sometimes the Mom world and school world collide!! I went to pick up my text ( gotta get in some reading while kiddos watch a movie) and stuck my hand in Maple Syrup!!! Yucky. That's what I get for letting kids eat in the living room. It's just a little BLOB :p It wiped off easily but I cracked up........then I thought OMG what am I doing???? am I crazy??? Nope--it'll all be fine-right???

BTW--send some positive energy to us please...Hubby just got a weird, iffy email from the boss. See..the hubby is a software developer and works on week to week contract basis. (stinks!!) The boss says to put the work on "hold" & he won't be getting paid next week :o Thanks for the notice! Anyway, who knows if there will be work after that. Let's all keep prayin' and hopin' for the best--

Yea, hopefully I'll get to that point where you are at where I am glad both kids are in school! Right now I just have to get used to this new life change, kwim? How old are your kids?

Oh that's horrible! Does your hubby work with any recruiters that might be able to get him some other gigs in the meantime?

thanks! he has worked with recruiters in the past but has never received any contacts or offers in OKC- ususally out in NY or CA. Anyway- he's been working with some friends to start their own business, but I don't know exactly where they stand as far as making $$. I don't think they are at full "go" stage. We've been stashing $$ since he was on contract anway so we won't be left out in the cold but....it's frustrating and worrisome. He also has contacts out there--he was out of work for a year 03-04, and did some odd programming, websites, etc. so He's gotta get on the phone just in case things take a turn next week. BUT then again, this guy he works for is a little excentric- a mad scientist type! so he probably hasn't communicated the whole story & has all the guys hanging for no reason ( all the "guys" are contract)

Thanks again for the concern--I'm going to try to be supprtive to him without nagging- you now that can be a fine line :)

& keep your head up!! Sounds like you have things under control with the logistics of school kids etc. It takes some adjustment- we've all been a little tired this week due to getting up earlier. Everyone will get used to it--kids probably faster than US:p

wow, so is the computer software/tech industry just not that big in OKC? We are in Phoenix, and my dh gets contacted by recruiters ALL the time. Most is contract stuff, but he has such a great deal going right now as an employee, no one has been able to match it.

oh ikwym! :rotfl:

thanx! I'm sure this week is going to be hard with my little one starting the daycare. I'm sure you guys will hear all about it. :o But we will get used to it. It will feel nice to have a bit of freedoms in the morning and sit in a quiet library. Quiet is something I definitely don't get enough of!

BTW, I have a question for everyone. What prereqs did you have to take for A&P1? We had to take biology, and I did the accelerated biology, plus chemistry last semester. And I ended up getting an A and a B, plus A's for the labs. There was SO much work between those classes, that I'm finding the work for A&P so far to not be overwhelming. Maybe that's just because its the beginning and I'm taking only one other class which is kind of easy (nutrition). I'm also finding that the first two lessons are almost an in depth review of the stuff we did in biology. All this tissue/histology stuff I just got finished doing in biology. Is anyone else finding this stuff is really familiar to them also?

I'm sure when we get to the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems it will be much more complicated.

Rebecca

The first day of A&P I had fun trying to pick out the students that I think will drop and the "A" students. Does anyone else do that. I'll watch somone for a minute and think I bet they will be gone by the first test. I'm not usually right but it is still kind of fun. A funny thing is that sometimes someone that totally looks like an "A" student book worm ends up being a "D" student.
