A&P during summer session

Published

Hiyah :D

The summer sessions are 8 weeks long, and I can devote all the time needed daily for the most part (I'm a stay at home mom). I have a 4 year old and a 13 year old, but I also have a husband and mother-in-law that are on deck and for the most part taking care of what the kiddos need so I can study. (Everyone wants me to get through school! hehe)

How rough do you think taking A&P in 8 weeks will be? I'm a good student but I want an A in the course... !!! Actually it'd be both A&P 1 and A&P 2 in 16 weeks, two summer sessions. I'm feeling like I should start studying *NOW* for this coming summer... (really stressing about it) Situation wise I'm in good shape so far as being able to really concentrate on my classes, but I'm wondering if it's enough *time* to memorize everything to get a good grade.

I've also considered auditing a A&P course this next semester... thoughts?

I think it depends on your prof. I have always been an A/B student (through an almost completed engineering degree - calc, physics, chemistry, differential equations etc.) and am finding that A & P 1 is giving me a run for my money. I have an A in the course but it has been a struggle. We do have a great prof though. Due to the number of students trying to apply for health care programs, I think a number of colleges are using the A&P sequence as a weed out class.........

I took A&P 2 this past summer. Ours was 10 weeks. I had no trouble with it and got my A. I had taken A&P 1 during the regular 15 week session and although I still got an A, I found it more difficult mainly because I was also taking psyche at the same time. Psyche was exteremely easy for me, but it was a distraction. If A&P is the only class you will be taking, you will still work hard, but it is doable.

(I'm also a stay at home mom with 3 kids in school and a husband who works at home.)

I took AP II during a 5 week summer session. I also received an A. As long as you can devote a lot of time to the course, it should not be a problem. In fact, I find it difficult now to take the regular semester courses because they progress so slowly . The only thing you should consider is how much information you will be covering. We ended up skipping around more than my AP I class (regular semester). This left me feeling a little cheated. I had to do it in order to apply 6 months earily to the NP so it was worth it, but I plan on reviewing APII a couple of weeks before the program begins.

Good luck in your studies!

Specializes in Operating Room.

I also took A&P 2 in a 5-week course, and passed with an A.

It really all depends on how much will be covered, how the exams are written, and how much time you are willing to put into it.

I would think 8 weeks would be enough for A&P 1.

GOOD LUCK!

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

I took A&P 1 during the summer and also got my A.

Lots of memorization and dedication. If you know you can put the effort in then you should have no problem.

Good luck. :)

A&P can be a tough class. It's mainly a lot of memorization. I have been using flash cards for my class, and it has has tremendously. Maybe it would be beneficial for you to start reading up a bit before school starts and kind of get a feel for the course. Good luck!

I am REALLY glad to hear this! I was planning on taking AP I & II during the summer session. These run in 2 - 5 week sessions, one right after the other. This was all I was planning on taking and I will not be working so I will have a lot of time to study. If I did not do this it would prolong my pre-req's by one extra semester and I will have to take a lot of fill in courses to keep my full time status.

Did you make these flash cards or can you buy them?

I also have taken A&P I and II in the summer and they were 5 weeks each. I received an A in both of them. Lots of studying and no TV helped me pass! :) Good luck!!

I made them on index cards. I like doing that because I can also learn while I make out the flash cards. Very handy. And I keep them in an index card box. Now I just need dividers to separate the chapters. :p

I took A&P 1 & 2 at the same time 3 summers ago. It was a 9 week course, & the girl in the registration office looked @ me like I was nuts. I took A&P 2 in the am, & A&P 1 at noon (that's rt, I actually learned the physio, before I learned the anatomy). I had & hr break between the two classes. It was a little rough at times, but my luck had it, the test were schedule opposites wks of one another. which meant, I didn't have them both the same day, but I had a test just about every week. Like someone said it depends on the professors u have. my am class was taught by the dean of the biology dept, but I got an A outta his class, my second class was taught by a summer fill-in instructor, and I got a B, outta her class. Best wishes goes out to you on whatever you decide to do.
