A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?

Published

So how are my fellow pre-nursing students doing in A&P 1? We are in week 6 and are finishing up chapter 9 of Saladin's text, and our 2nd exam should be next friday, but we will find out for sure later on this week. So far I am doing good, Got my first test back and I received an A. :) I am a little nervous about the tissues, I HATE histology, a necessary evil I suppose. Our first lab practical is next week and I am extremely nervous about that. Any pointers besides relax?

A little bummed out............I made an A in A&P 1. I just found out today and I was sooo excited!! I couldn't believe it. I worked so hard this semester. I have studied endless hours almost every day. I also have 2 very small kids, whom I've missed out on a bunch of their activities. Anywho...my best friend is going to school for nursing too. She finished up all of her prereqs this semester. So technically she is 2 classes ahead of me. I need AP2 and Micro...

anywho, we were talking about grades and she asked me how I did. She made a B, in AP1,2, and Micro. and she told me that my A was good, but that her advisor told her that they look at the professor you took and how hard they teach/test. So she was basically saying that her B is better than my A. I was really upset at that point. Does anyone know if that is true? I mean I'm sure each school is different, but I would think when they are trying to narrow down 800 applicants to 155 that they dont look to see what teacher you took and how hard they are. Thanks!

I have never heard of such of thing. Most schools look at your GPA in the required pre-req courses, not the professor you took. Wouldn't it be true that most students will try to get the easier professor...does "RATEMYPROFESSOR.COM" sound familiar. Be proud of yourself... you worked hard for that grade. Seems to me your friend should have praised you more for you efforts and not discount your grade with some silly hearsay. Although, it may not have been her intention to deflat your confidence. I am sure she was aware of how hard you worked to get that grade.

Be happy and proud of yourself. Don't let this bother you.. get mentally prepared for AP2 & Micro

That is why I don't share my grades with ANYONE in my school and I don't ask, especially with other pre-nursing students.

Good Luck.

I received a "B"!!! I am shocked by my final grade. I was bummed out after my final exam and was expecting a "C" or even a "D". The official grades will be posted in a few days but I hope my professor didn't pull a typo. :D

I was wondering what kind of chem is in anatomy? A lot of people are saying that they studied chem in the begining. Is it bad to take anatomy before chemistry?

A&P is easy and depends on how committed one is to the class. I really hate when people complain about their teacher when they don't get the grade they want. What a lame excuse for one's laziness

I'm sorry but I have read this comment several times and refrained from commenting because I don't want to sound harsh but I can't resist.

Because A&P is easy for you doesn't mean it will be easy to someone else and it certainly isn't an easy subject. A lot does depend on the instructor. I know a lot of committed students that fail or just pass a class with a C because the Professor sucked and didn't know what he/she was doing.

I can attest to that myself. I have been taking classes for the past 2 years and received high A's in all my classes with the exception of Biology which I passed with a C by 1 point. I am an older student, very disciplined and study all the time. Half of my biology class dropped out and from the remaining 10 only half of us passed. The professor had to give a curve on 3 of the test.. absolutely ridiculous. Now, I am sure there were a few students that weren't focused, but in this case, the professor was "lame" not the students. I am sure you will find this true with all subjects.

rholman, Thanks for the encouraging words! I'm sure she didnt mean anything by it either, but that is a great idea not to share my grades with anyone else. Thanks again!

You are welcome. When people ask me how I did on my test or the class grade... I say great, or better than expected and leave it at that. It's amazing the look on their face because they really want to know so they can compare their grade to yours. I don't want to feel bad if I got a bad grade and I don't want to make anyone else feel bad if I got a good grade.

Total BS! That is ridiculous, I can tell you for a fact that schools never spend the time researching professors and how hard they teach. Good job getting that A! I just had my anatomy final 40 minutes ago, and I feel pretty confident. I had to get over a 43% to get an A. I loved anatomy!

I wish I could convince my brain to see it that way! I know that truly, I am not competing with my classmates (I'm applying to Duke, they're almost all applying to the community college we attend) but the competitive nature of nursing school applications definitely gets me kind of twitchy at times. I have to tell myself to breathe, an A is an A on MY transcript, no matter who else in the class gets one, too... :)

Re: knowing grades... in A&P this semester, I attended regular study groups with my classmates who were struggling a bit with the class, and by the end of the semester we'd brought their exam grades up 10-15%. :) So I knew all of their grades and they knew mine, but it was a spirit of cooperation, not competition. I don't mind sharing grades with the people with the people I'm "in it together" with. We celebrated everyone's successes together.

Okay, and maybe I don't mind sharing my success with the snarky ones who liked to whine that there's NO WAY that ANYONE could learn from OMG SUCH A BAD PROFESSOR and ask me what I got. My goodness, you CAN learn the material even if you don't like the professor, you say? What blasphemy! ;)

Here's to A&P 2, y'all! May your comprehension of the intricacies of our amazing bodies start you all off right and carry you through strongly until the last question of your finals in the Spring. :)

I do agree with you, that if you are participating in a study group, you are there to help motivate and support each other. In that case, I guess I would share my grade, but to the individual sitting next to me.. no.

Nursing school is very competitive and you do need the best grade to get in. However, some pre-nursing students are will say and do things to discourge you. Maybe it's not always intentional but sometimes it is. I just try to keep focused on what I need to do to be accepted.

You are also correct that, even if you don't like the professor, you can still pass the class, providing he/she teaches you what you need to know to take the test or the information was in the text. My nutrition teacher was unorganized, moody and not the best instructor BUT if you read the text and reviewed the material she provided.. you could ACE the class.

I got a C. I'm not happy at all but I expected it to be honest. I want to re-take it but I can't at my school without dept. permission. My goal is an A in A&P 2 to balance it out a bit.
