A&P 1 Spring 08

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)

I'm taking A & P (I) this semester. I started Jan. 7.

I'm new to this site! :redpinkhe

I just purchased Barron's Anatomy flashcards at a college book store. They really look awesome. There are 264 full color cards sub divided into all the systems. They cost $24.00. It states that they are an ideal study aid for medical, nursing and healthcare trainees. Just thought they might help me, whenever I take the courses. They look great !

Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself and get in on this thread. :) My name is Alicia and I'm doing my nursing pre-reqs. I start A&PI Tuesday. I'm a little nervous as I have never taken a lab science course in college before. In fact, the last time I had any kind of science at all was over 20 years ago in high school!

I've been reading the text and it looks like a lot of work but not impossible. I hope we all do well! :)

I am also starting A & P on Tuesday. I have finished CNA (required by state of IL), Nutrition and Chemistry - all with A's. I will also be taking Pyschology this semester and Microbiology in the summer. All other pre-reqs are finished and will be applying for the Associate Degree RN program next fall to start in January 2009. I'm looking forward to A & P - learning how God has wonderfully created our bodies - but also worried about the work load. My school sent a letter detailing what I need to know before class starts in order to be successful in the class. The flashcards recommended for this class are outstanding but scary. I'm 44 years old and this brain has to work harder than some younger ones, but I know that God is carrying me thru to what He wants me to do. This forum is a great support and encouragement.

My class starts on Tuesday and I think I just hit a new level of nerd. I just read outloud chapter 1 of my anp book to my voice recorder and made mp3s of the whole chapter to put in my ipod and listen to at work. Too bad I hate listening to my own voice, but this way it makes it easier to study at work! lol

Way to go Lennon! The outloud reading is good but had to giggle when you made mp3s! I am going to read ch 1 tonight and review tomorrow! My class starts Tuesday too!

I just got my textbook in the mail today.

I think I've figured out the secret to success in this class...well, besides studying at least 10ish hours a week:lol2:...make your own flashcards. There's just something about reading something and then writing it down that helps you commit it to memory. I've already got about 50 and I'm only on the first chapter:uhoh21:. Also, I'm going to post up some of the charts and study aides that come with my book in the next few hours!

I ordered some flashcards. i hope those help even if I'm not writing them myself.

Good luck everyone!

I start tonight!! This is my first college science/lab class, (even though I've been taking college classes for about 3 years now) and I've already been studying this entire past week, just reading through chapters one and two and making notes so I can get a head start. Making your own flashcards is a great idea! I've already started doing that as well, and I think it does help when writing it down yourself.

I've been excited for my class to come, but now that its today I'm kinda nervous because I really don't know what to expect. I just have to trust myself that I can get through it!

I actually kinda hope its as challenging as everyone says! I've already taken Nutrition and at first the teacher was really hard, but then he progressively got easier and easier and I ended up being really bored!

Hello everyone. So far my A&P class is going well. Today I begin my second week of class. I really don't think it is going to be that bad. At any rate I plan to hang in there until the end. I have no time to waste.

Hey Crystal73!

Anyways...the lab freaks me out more than anything. We started of with microscopy and next week we're doing mitosis. Yikes! Also discovered that I will have to dissect a cat...:barf01:

I just had my first lab today. Nothing really exciting. We went over directional terms, some anatomical terminology and the details of the take home quiz that will be our first quiz of the semester. Katie, our school used to do the cat dissections and that was one of my biggest freak outs, but they eliminated the cats and brought in 2 cadavers instead. :barf02: I know I'm going to have to get used to death in this field and make my own peace with it, but I thought that would happen during the Nursing program and not during Anatomy. Anyone else working with cadavers? Tips? Reassurances? Thus far, all I know about them is that the smell is terrible and they'll have a green appearance from the wetting solution that needs to be sprayed on them regularly. ugh....
