A&P 1 Spring 08

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)

looking for the other person who is taking A/P I through RODP? Tennessee. I got all my books but i think they sent the wrong one. I got 7th and 8th edition and on their web-site it says 1st edition? What did you get, are you ready for Monday???

I registered for school since November sixth, and I had the nerve to sign up for A&P1 and chemistry. (I have had too many months now to change my mind about the amount of classes i have signed up for.) Even though i have a very good GPA 3.90 I am coming from an accounting background. Then the Nursing dept sent me a letter in December telling me I could start my nure 130 class which is the first one. I was so excited I went to register for that one too. I have all three for Spring of 08 I am really thinking about just keeping the chem then doing a&p 1 in summer 1 and a&p2 in summer 2 . Then I will wait for the next letter for me to start nure 130 in the fall of 08. ANY advice or should I just stick it out . get a&p 1 chem and nure 130 out of the way. HELP GUYS!!!!!!

Only you can decide what kind of work load you can handle. But I can tell you this: 2 nursing students in my A&P I class were also taking Nursing I. They both said they wished they hadn't done any science at the same time as nursing, because the study requirements for both courses were intense. One of them spent the semester looking like Heck -- always major-league stressed. The other one got so overwhelmed, she dropped out of nursing for a year to finish her sciences. One had children, the other did not. I know one of them did not have a job, but I don't know about the other. The bottom line is that it *can* be done. I'm sure you'll find people on this board who've done it. But only you can determine how much time and energy you can devote to 2 science courses plus nursing. If you normally tend to get stressed out, you might want to consider doing the sciences first and then concentrating on your nursing. I do think A&P I and Chem in the same semester is doable, but again, they're going to take a lot of time.

Hey Crystal73!

Class went pretty well last night...I was scared out of my wits (especially during lab) but I made it through with the help of a nerve pill. My prof is kind of intense but I'm choosing to ignore her scary-ness and just do the best I can. 4 straight hours of A&P is rough though.

Anyways...the lab freaks me out more than anything. We started of with microscopy and next week we're doing mitosis. Yikes! Also discovered that I will have to dissect a cat...:barf01:Oh well...I'm lucky because she makes us buy her lecture notes and she has study objectives for each section listed in the back. Also I have it on good authority that she pulls her test questions from the MyA&P/CourseCompass site. Does anyone else have a class that utilizes this site?

Hope everyone's doing well!!! I'll post up any exciting and/or helpful things I get from the MyA&P site!

Its been a LONG time since I've been in school...but I'm wondering...why does she make you "buy" her lecture notes? Am I missing something that is totaly normal to every other student... cause I think I may be a lil ticked off if I have to buy notes from my teachers after I just had to pay an arm and a leg to even take their classes. Or is it just an option that you have... kind of like a leg up or something?

We are required to purchase the notes from our school bookstore. I know it seems lame but it's 250 pages + and it means I'm able to have exactly what she's going to go over and test me on right in front of me. That and I can listen and add things in class rather than trying frantically to write everything she says. It's definitely not a normal practice, but I have had a few profs do the same thing before, especially in very "heavy memorization" type classes. Plus she only has the bookstore charge us whatever it cost to print. I think I paid $11 and to me it's totally worth it.

Hi all,

I might be joining this study group. I'm going to a school for the first time starting monday. I've been homeschooled all my life and got my GED last year. My school only offers A&P I in the fall, so I'm trying to take it online. If I can get into the class I will come back. :clown:

Sunset - I believe you can take it online for 5 credit hours, not the 8 hours my school requires you to have. Hard to do lab online. ;)

The school my adviser recommended I use to do A&P online sends you a lab kit(white rat included) to do the lab at home. The class is full, but I'm trying to see if I can get in.

Ok I get it now...it really kind of sounds like a good idea...and very helpful on the teacher's part. For $11 why not...I kind of hope that my teacher does that...I'm not sure how great my notes will be for a 3 hour class...can you say HAND CRAMP:o

A&P 1 for me this semester!!!

I registered for A&P I online! Last night it was showing up full, but it let me register this morning. :flowersfo for everyone in the group. The class started on Monday, so I will be behind. I have to wait until next week for my books to arrive. What should I start studying to prepare myself?

I'd start studying regional/directional terms (ventral v. dorsal, anterior v. posterior, superior v. inferior, etc), body parts, body cavities, basic chemistry, and cellular terminology type stuff. That stuff will be the foundation that you add to as you go further in the class.
