Hello eveyone, has anyone taken A&P II
if so please give me some advice on getting an excellent grade.

basically it is like A&PI. do what ever you did in the in A&PI and you should do fine there is a little more physiology but not to bad just take your time and make sure you read the material make good notes and study study study!!! Try getting a study guide that seemed to help me alot.. goodluck you will do fine and happy studying:)

Just took A&P1 and looking forward for A&P II.
Just read the materials before class, tape the lecture if you allowed to, ask questions, go for tutoring if you need to, dont wait last minute to study, read from other sources if you dont understand an area.
Remember Anatomy is like a Big Elephant. How do you eat an Elephant?
Little bite at a time.........That was my strategy for A&P I and got an A.

I have taken the classes seperately with labs and did well. My recommendations are to take excellent notes. Tape the lectures, if possible. Use the coloring books available for A&P in addition to making your own flash cards, opposed to buying the ready made ones.
Other tips I have:
A & P is mostly memorization. Listening to lecture tapes, taking notes while you study and making those flash cards yourself are great ways to hold in all of that information.

my goodness, newmom27, i would have missed your post if i had not checked the "new posts" list a few minutes ago. i usually check the posts in the student forums. never thought to check out the lpn/lvn corner forum for students looking for help with their studies. i maintain lists of web links to information that pre-nursing and nursing students are often looking for. i have 3 pages of a&p links, but i am giving you the ones i think are the most extensive sites with the mostest information. at some of these sites you will find practice questions, diagrams to label and instructor outlines. happy new year! happy studying!
http://www.gwc.maricopa.edu/class/bio202/index.htm - the home page of the above - follow links on the left side of the page to lecture notes (the general outline of the profs lectures) and study questions (answers are at the bottom of the pages). many of the sections of lecture notes have links to interesting online resources about some particular subject scattered throughout, so check out each page from top to bottom. most of the questions are multiple choice, but i did see at least one fill-in-the-blank practice test. occasionally the instructor has a link to a review sheet for the students to fill out. the section on the brain has a beautiful interactive brain tutorial for learning the cranial nerves and a test here: http://www.gwc.maricopa.edu/class/bio201/cn/cranial.htm
http://bioweb.uwlax.edu/aplab/index.html - this is a very large site developed by the a&p department of the university of wisconsin to help students to study laboratory materials for practical exams - lots of labeled pictures! click on "table of contents" at the left to link into the massive information on this site. there is also a section of exam questions at the link "ap test home".

http://www.msjensen.gen.umn.edu/webanatomy/ - this is the mother lode of anatomy pictures to label from the university of minnesota web anatomy site. the links on the left side of the page will take you to more links of all kinds of anatomy pictures for you people who want practice labeling anatomical diagrams! it is organized by body systems, but includes sections on cells and medical terminology. knock yourself out!
http://www.sirinet.net/~jgjohnso/index.html - home page of the biology teacher at frederick high school in frederick, oklahoma. this instructor teaches a high school class of a&p. although you want to link into the biology ii homepage, i notice that there is information in the biology i homepage to link into that also pertains to some a&p. there are plenty of quizzes and practice exercises scattered throughout this extensive site, but i could not find any answers. presented in a little easier than college level, i thought this was an awesome introduction to a&p!

I just finished A&P II. I found it less memorization that the first part. Mine had more physiology than A&P I. I highlighted the book, took my own notes and studied them.

I found A&P II to be more physiology than rogue memorization. I took notes but not that many. The professor had her PowerPoint presentations online for us to use. This professor also sponsored a study group which I attended every week. I also spent a great deal of time during open lab doing lab work. I did not buy any supplimental study material other than the study guide that goes with the text. I did not use the study guide regularly but instead I used it to prepare for the exams. My average was 97% in both I and II.
Read the material before lecture, take advantage of open lab, join or start a study group, take advantage of the professor's office hours, and by all means approach the the class with a positive attitude and you'll do fine.

This may sound a bit corny, but what worled for a lot of people in addition to the other suggestions here would be to make you get a seat in the FRONT of the class as well :)

I dont know how someone can make flash cards for A&P there is so much information, you would need a case on wheels to carry all your cards around. I am not saying they dont work but to decide what would go on them alone would be a nightmare, A&P sucks and is hard, I dont care what instructor you have, its going to be hard.

Oh, please - don't let WannaBeMaleRN scare you. I have a 4.0 in both A&P I and II, and I got it partly by not letting people scare the crap out of me.
You most certainly can make cards for II. I made them based on the important highlights from the professor's lectures, and also included vocabulary that I found difficult. I flipped through these at every opportunity; the stack was not unwieldy because I only carried around my current chapters.
I also searched the Web for helpful things - there is an entire website at
http://pos.psdr3.org/science/anatomy/cardiovascular.html that I used for my cardiovascular unit. (Learn the words to the St. Joe's commercial - it was VERY helpful for me!) Also, there are resources on http://www.studystack.com; you can view stacks of "virtual notecards" made by other students on tons and tons of topics and I believe you can make your own as well on the site.
Good luck; you will be fine - after all - look at how many of US have passed and passed with an outstanding grade. You will do great, I just know it!
