Hi,
Anyone taking A&P 2 this summer. Join me here and we can help each other out. I know the faster pace is going to be tough.
Aw that sucks Katie, I'm sorry she dropped Yeah I wasn't super fond of the resp chapter because it caused me to miss probably 6-7 questions on my midterm
I've got my 3rd exam this weekend (at home and open book) and I'm pretty much just counting the days until it's over. I miss first semester when I had a real class with a real teacher and I actually learned the material.
Less than 3 weeks to go though!
Is the respiratory part that hard or just confusing? Thanks....I start a&P in the fall
The actual anatomy of the resp system isn't hard, it's actually very straightforward. It's just pretty confusing when you get into the gas exchange and pressure stuff. Figuring out how the O2 binds to the hemaglobin and how CO2 and H2O make carbonic acid and bicarbonate ions is kicking me in the butt since I'm not a huge fan of chem. If you just stay on top of it it shouldn't be so bad though. Good luck!
We've only got a little over 3 weeks to go and I'm just praying I can keep my grades up. I have to push myself pretty hard in lab for my second test if I want an A in the class.
I'm so excited!! I got an A on my bone lecture test. I guess my change in study habits helped, I also made some changes in testing skills as well.
So I am back up to a B average!!! Just barely so I'll have to continue to get As and Bs to maintain it but with my new study habits I know that I can do it.

Congrats!!! That's fantastic! Keep up the good work!!!
dee78, what did you do to change your study habits? I am always intersted in what works and adjust for myself....lol
Katie, Thanks for the anwser back.....I just got accepted into RT school so will be getting lots of respiratory...the gas exchange is what I have heard is the hardest to understand.

that is easy, you just have to remember which part forms breathing
NASAL FOSSA > PHARYNX>LARYNX>THRACHEA> BRONCHI>BRONCHIILES>ALVEOLI
respiration (GAS EXCHANGE) occurs on the ALVEOLI through DIFFUSION.... you have to remember DIFFUSION, that is the key word for A&P1
also be on top of the types of mucus, the "ESCALATOR" what does mucus do for you, what about the nasal fossa, how you automaticaly switch nostrils between almost every half an hour!
remember also that 5% of your lung cells are for Repair'' ' great alveolar' the rest is squamous alveolar
and that 98.5% of the oxigen you breath is bonded to the hemoglobine, and the 1.5 left is dissolved
remember the systemic gas exchange where the cell will release O2 and pick uo CO2
learn how to calculate tidal volume, total intake volume, dead air volume of breathing...
those are the most important things about the respiratory that i could think of!
CracklinRose-
I am taking mine online so it may be a bit different. But I would read the lecture notes and highlight in the book. That wasn't working so I read the book and made my own notes on notecards. THEN I read the lecture notes and highlighted my notes and filled in what I may have missed or she decided to include. I also watched an online video lecture for this chapter and downloaded lectures onto my IPOD. So that gave me some of the benefits of a traditional class.
Then I just studied my notecards and book illustrations. I didn't look at the websites until I knew the material. That was the problem I was having with the websites. I'm a visual learner so I memorized the way it was on the website so when I would think that I was doing good and prepared based on the website, I really had just memorized the answers as they were on the website.
Plus I used better test taking skills. Where's the V8? The first test I was so nervous about the format, I barely even proofread. I missed some because I down arrowed (changing the answer) before I saved it. Then on the 2nd test...well I had 11 people in the house and was planning my daughter's b-day party. I had too much going on and just didn't concentrate on reading the questions and searching my mind for the answers. But with this one, I read each question. If I knew the answer then I saved it. If I didn't know it, then I didn't save it so I could easily go back to review it. Then I went through the entire test again, carefully thinking about each question. I did change some answers because I had some AH-HA moments.
That's what I changed, I hope they will help with the rest of the tests.
Thanks so much dee78....I am more of a hands on learner....I am maintaing A's so far but know when I get to A&P & Chem, th memory needs to be worked on.....lol. I am making fashcards, reviewing the sites Carlos has posted, etc.....trying to get a jump start on things....oh, and I bought a coloring book....I taking Ethics, Math and Bio right now....and am very comfortable with these classes so it gives me some time to concentrate on the fall classes.
I can't imgine taking it online.....good luck
Wow what a day to have a A&P II midterm.. July 5th!!! Totatally ruined my 4th of July and to top it off July 4th was my 9 year wedding anniversary but we could not do anything because I had to study.
But I am sure glad I did!! When I sat down and started answering the questions and I was like... I know this... I know this... AHHH what a feeling!!
So 4 weeks down 4 to go!! I am taking it in an online accelerated format. Aug 2nd is the final. Ok so on to my Algebra midterm which is next Saturday. urgh!!! I suck at it.

CSANTOS.. you had the Resp. System as part of A&P1? I think its funny how each A&P sets the systems up differently. I am in A&P II and we have Resp. System now (right after the midterm) I watch the webcasts of UC Berkley classes to help with lecture ( because I take A&P online) and they make A&P 1 and 2 a combo course and its scattered all over the place.
