Hey everyone,
I'm sure this topic has been posted many, many times before, but I just wanted to see who is taking both A&P II and Microbiology next semester. Are you taking just these two classes, or do you plan to take others with them? How do you feel about taking two sciences at once, and what is your "plan of attack"?
Next semester, I'm just taking A&P II/lab and Micro/lab. It's only 8 credits, but it's all I have left before I apply. I'm actually very excited about it, I love science :) I won't be working during school (except maybe on Saturday) and I don't have kids, so I plan to spend most of my time reading, studying, making outlines, staying organized, highlighting, and of course, going to class and taking good notes. I have A&P II on M/W with the same teacher I have now (who is awesome by the way), and Micro on T/Th.
It's hard to believe this semester is almost over. It's been great, but I'm tired and ready for a break!
The question is - do you have a science brain or not? If science thrills you and comes easily to you, then taking those two classes in the same semester should be as it was for me - wonderful. The concepts from the two classes reinforced one another. I looked forward to class.
If you are the sort of person who dreads science classes and has to work like a bear just to survive them, it might not be the best idea to take both at the same time.
Thank you ixchel: If a professor doesn't provide PowerPoint slides or any handouts, then I guess just use one's lecture notes as well as the book, correct? Thank you again.
Yup! Usually the books aren't too painful to read. The authors know the content is thick enough so they do their best. Chapter summaries are a great spot to get condensed content that is to the point, but you end up lacking a lot of detail in them.
Ok seriously...just two classes with maybe one day of work and you are questioning this? I don't get how there can be anything close to a problem here.[/quote']Really?!
These two classes are two of the most information dense, fast-paced classes of all pre-reqs. If you are not generally a science-minded person, then yes, there can be a problem here. Not everyone can sit through 3 hours of class a week and do little more to earn As. Some of us also want to actually learn and REMEMBER the content beyond cramming for an exam.
Not only that but having a part-time job in no way implies that that is the OP's only responsibility or time drain in existence. Cut some slack.

I'm not questioning it and I don't think that it will be a problem either. I didn't ask anyone if they thought I could do it (because I know I can). I mainly wanted to see what other people thought when they took the two classes together (if they were taking other classes, if they were working...). I really like reading other people's stories and hearing their experiences and opinions. :)
I did A&P2 w/lab, Micro, and Human Growth and Dev. I actually liked having the A&P and Micro at the same time because even though my professors were at different campuses, many things they taught ending up overlapping or giving me an advantage in one class since we'd already covered it in the other.
I had particular issues with my A&P2 and lab, though, which is the same professor taught it, and English wasn't his first language (unfortunately that meant words like "adenohypophysis" was said "a-DEE-no-hyposis" and "va-HEE-na" instead of "lady parts").
I recieved B, B, B, and A, respectively.

I am taking A&P II and Micro next semester. Many of my classmates think I am nuts for doing so.
