I'm signed up to take A&P II and Microbio this summer. Both are 8 week courses and I would be taking Micro + lab Mondays/Wednesdays from 2pm - 7pm and A&P + lab Tuesdays/Thursdays from 5pm - 10 pm. I also work over 30 hours/week and I'm scared...can I do this? :chair: Is there anyone out there who has attempted the same sort of work/course load and succeeded? I certainly don't want to overload myself and sacrifice my chance to make good grades, but I also need to complete these courses before the fall if possible so that I'm a more competitive applicant for nursing school. If it were you, what would you do? Thanks for any advice ya'll can give me!:bowingpur

My Micro class mate is taking both of these classes right now. She also works full time and is having a hard time with it. I recommend unless you have 18 hours to devote to studying a week, to pick one. That way you can take it all in and get a good grade.

Ugh. I'm taking APII and Micro right now, plus I work 40hrs a week and I'm going through a divorce. I have to agree with above...you need time to study. While everyone is different in there learning styles, one thing is certian - these are HARD classes. I wouldn't even try to pull something off like that in the summer and trying to work as much as you do. I would do one or the other, I wish I could have done that. Good luck!!
Thank you both so much for taking the time to answer me! I think I am leaning in the direction of taking A&P this summer and then Microbio in the fall...hopefully that won't kill my chances of getting into nursing school. Then again, if I take them both at the same time and bomb them I'm probably hurting my chances worse...

It is doable....but you have to be DETERMINED & remain very focused. When I took Micro(2003) I was pregnant with my 2nd child, working full time at a hospital at night(12 hr shifts)...leaving there to be at school at 8:30 am for my critical thinking class...that was hard but I got very good grades and looking back I do not know how I was able to do it.........the next semester( still being pregnant)........
I took BIO 110, CHEMISTRY AND A & P I at the same time...NOW that was TOUGH!!!but I made an A in CHEMISTRY... A in Biology and a big fat C in A & P I( I missed final exam because I had my baby on that day)
I personally think that the anatomy classes are the hardest because there is SO MUCH you have to learn in so little time. I just want to say if you put your mind to it you can do anything.... I wish you the best of luck!!!:nuke:
Thank you for the encouragement! Still not sure if I want to tackle it, but your story gives me hope that it's possible.

i was taking AP2, Micro, English 1a, and Organic Chem this semester. was tough like steel so i decided to drop organic chem and English and focus on AP2 and Micro for this semester. i think taking AP2 and Micro at the same time is "do-able" but it takes a lot of discipline and focus to study and get through with good grades. i have an A in both classes right now and i study about 4 hours a day. i think devoting 6-8 hours in studying per day should be enough for the summer since its on an accelerated schedule. plus, its only for 8 weeks. just suck it up and youll be in the program in no time.

Go for it, I did and got A's in both. Trust me when I tell you it will be good practice for NS school. Those two classes together do not compare to challenge of a semester in nursing school.
Good luck

Wow...8-week courses, plus you work. Not to put your goal down but don't kill yourself. Seriously...I am taking Micro and A&P 2 currentl along with another class and it is tough work. I'm doing great in both, but these are serious subjects and it is already tough to take them in a shorter amount of time, which means twice the work at a faster pace. I don't recommend it. Plus you work full time, I just don't see how you could have an ample amount of time to study considering you have lecture AND lab in both, which means lecture exams and lab practicals probably falling in the same week or closely together. Usually in classes that run that short, you get tested every other week. If you weren't working I think it would be possible but since you are I just think it wouldn't be wise. I would take one in the summer and wait til the fall for another. You want to make the best possible grades, so keep that in mind, you don't want to jeporadize that. GOOD LUCK!!:nuke:

I would tell her to go for it, if it was a full 16-week semester but this and 8-week semester, I just don't think its smart, plus she works full time. I myself, and taking both currently and getting A's but I would never take both in the summer together while working! :uhoh21:
