Hi I am in the NY area and wanted to know has anyone ever repeated any A&P classes and got into NS? I have to take A&P a 3rd time. The 1st time I got a C, but I had just had my son in the same semester and was tired as hell, along with other drama in my life, and was in the Army. 2nd go...got a D, I took a 4 week accelerated course while working 40 hr/wk (big mistake I know).....So now Im going for an A and aside from the fact that all this stuff was going on, I still need to improve my study habits and started thinking realistically about myself, I am going at this full throttle this time and not stopping.
Now that the drama is out my life and im out the Army, I am ready to focus. But the only thing is repeating classes like this frowned upon? Even if I explain my situations? I mean it involves court- child support and custody and dealing with lawyers and all that other drama from the ex really made it hard...and im only 25!!!! But no more excuses!!! I wont give up, this is my dream...
Will this be frowned upon in NY schools because I am taking it a 3rd time?? Gonna try my best to get an A
I have a B+ in AP2 and a C+ in Micro with a 2.8 GPA

I have no idea about your particular school. Where I go to school the last grade can always be replaced by a new grade.
Are you sure you are ready this time? I am in A&P 2 right now and I know what you
mean about drama. I have also had child support/financial issues, etc and it is too
distracting while taking a class like A&P. Even if you are free of "issues" when the class
begins, things can always come up. Ive been hit with job loss and huge financial
issues, me sick , the kids sick and you just cant let it consume you. I tend to freak out
for a day or two and then get back on track. Good luck.

Contact the schools you are interested in.At my school, repeated courses may count against you. Not that you can't get in, but weighing your transcript against someone else that did not repeat the course might hold you back. But each school is different so you really need to check the schools you want to attend.

My school doesn't mind if you re-take courses, I believe the onyl score they even see is the final one, and it doesn't effect you getting into the nursing program as long as your final grade is good. Ask your advisor for his or her advice and go from there.

I get that sometimes... as it is not fair to weight a student who had to take A&P six times to get an A versus someone that got an A the first time, but sometimes there are circumstances beyond a students control.
My best friend (in nursing school now) had to appear in court as a witness. She failed chemistry the first time. Here's why. She didn't get the notice for the court date until 2 days prior (she was witness to a crime). In her class, the lowest exam was dropped so there were no makeups for any reason. The court date was on exam day so she just had to miss it. She had to reappear in court as a witness and it just happened to fall on the date of the final. She showed proof to the professor who wouldn't accept it for a makeup - syllabus states no makeups for any reason. By the time she got the notice to appear, it was past the drop deadline so she petition to the school to drop the class late. It was denied as she was physically able to drop the class by the deadline (even though she didn't know she would need to). She had a 98% in the course (3 exams, labs, and weekly quizzes) prior to that. She retook the class and earned a high A. Is it really fair to a student like that to have their entire nursing career down the drain because a school wouldn't even look at her because she had to retake the course??
I do agree in a sense though. One prerequisite to nursing school was a PCT course but it taught a lot of typical basic nursing skills too. I found the class to be fairly easy as long as you kept up with the coursework and from friends in the program, that course is a piece of cake compared to the actual nursing program. I know there are students who are taking it for the third or fourth time and still barely pass. When the window opens July 1 at 9:00am, they may get accepted and that just isn't fair - their statistics show that almost all those students end up dropping out and failing out and they're taking my seat I have to wait til Aug 2011 and I know some of those students have been accepted for March 2011.

I took a couple of classes twice & got accepted to NS.Some schools, especially community colleges are very very VERY picky about re-taking classes. And really they can do so b/c there are soo many people applying to these programs.

The school I applied to stated clearly on their website that it looks at the best attempt of whatever transfers. Therefore, yes you could take it a third time. Some schools admit solely based on who has the best numbers (GPA, test scores), while others are more "hollistic," meaning they look at all aspects of an application. I'm sure you can find some schools that will fit you.

You have to make sure you really have the time and focus to make it work. If you think A&P is tough, wait til you get into your first semester of the nursing program. It feels like boot camp and you will wish you were just taking one 4 credit science course.

Like everyone else said..it really depends on the school you are applying to. Does the school that you are currently attending post all of the repeats on your transcript? I repeated chemistry...the first time I was failing and did awful, but I dropped and had to retake it (and had an teacher that was awesome x 1000) and ended up with a 98% average for the semester.
If you are able to take A+P again and get an "A", I'm sure that will look good for you. Also try to get letters of recommendation (even if the transfer school doesn't require it) because it only looks better for you.
Good luck!!

I repeated A&P and was still accepted into nursing school. Granted the 2nd time around I got a 104% (A&P I) in the class and a 109% (A&P 2). My school said they only looked at the final grade. I would say that you are fine. I did have a fantastic professor the second time around, she was a blessing. Good luck!!
