Hello Everyone,
Just A Quick Question Here. I Registered For A & P I For The Spring. I Am Also Taking A Developmental English Class Along With It. I Was Just Curious If Taking Another Non Science Course Would Be Too Much. I Have Not Had A Science Class Since High School (about 15 Yrs Ago). I Want To Get A Good Grade In The Class. The English Class I'm Not Worried About. I Wanted To Take A Psychology Or Computer Class. Do You Think It Will Be Too Much. I Will Not Be Working For Part Of The Semester. Which Is Why I Am Thinking Of Adding Additional Class To My Schedule. Any Input Would Be Great!
It really depends. In my class, A&P is taught from powerpoints and this is my instructor's first year to teach. Add that to how much material there is to cover in 16 weeks, and there really isn't any time for the instructor to explain things well.
To be successful, at least in my class, you have to do a lot of reading and studying on your own. In fact, I'd say that in my class everyone should be willing to completely learn the class on their own and just hope the instructor reinforces that knowledge.
That said, this fall I've had A&P I, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Human Growth and Development, and Philosophy. So it is definitely doable.
If you are good at reading comprehension and are interested in the material, A&P I is one of the easier science classes in my opinion. If you don't like reading, make sure you take a class from an instructor who explains things well and can illustrate a little better than mine lol.
I'd say if you're thinking between doing those two classes I'd go with Sociology over Medical Terminology. A & P is going to require you to memorize and remember in general a lot of terms, so I wouldn't suggest taking ANOTHER class where you'll have to be doing that also.
But yeah I think you could probably handle Sociology .... I'm taking 5 other classes (one of them being CPR which is over in 5 classes), however I don't have a job (I do plan to get a part time one) and I don't have any children.
I'm positive you'll get into the swing of things though, just as long as you go to EVERY class, take notes, listen and ask questions and study EVERY day (even for 15 min) you will do fine. Sociology was a breeze for me and I did it online.
I already have a BA in a non-nursing field. I'm going for my Associates in Nursing and just have to take anatomy I and Chemistry as pre-reqs (I have my degree in English so will be exempt from that).
Since my nursing program (evening) won't start until spring 2010, I'm going to take as many classes as possible. However, I'm only taking anatomy I next semester. I haven't been in school since 2001 and don't want to overload.
I also work full-time (with some overtime) so I definitely don't want to take more than I can chew.

reading this thread has given me a sigh of relief! i start classes next week: a&p1, eng111, psych, mth20 and sdv (that study skills class that i'm required to take..) and i'll be working around 30 hours a week.. so i am really stressing out, wondering if it's possible to take all of these classes while working and actually make good grades.
thanks!! good luck to everyone!
:no:I would not take another class with A&P 1 aside from the fact that it is a very important class for nursing students, it is a demanding class, there is alot of imformation to absorb in a short period of time there is no room for falling behind on readings. You already plan on taking an english class that will probally require you to write essays and A&P is really two classes because you have the lab with an obsene amount of material, so now you are up to 3 classes. Iam finished with all my pre reqs I have taken 3 classes at a time but NEVER two pre reqs in one semester. I just completed A&P 1 this past semester, I dident take anything else with it and I must have dedicated 3 to 4 hours a day studying it definitly contributed to the A I received. Dont cram its more important to produce considering how competitive the Nursing programs are. GOOD LUCK!:)
