A&P- getting me down!!!

Published

I don't know if I should be disapointed in myself or just feel happy I passed. I received my first A&P lecture exam back yesterday and I got a 76% which is a C+. I am a little disapointed because I really studied my butt off for this test. Now I am wondering what I am doing wrong. Some students received A's some B's, but also some received like 45% some failed, some got D's, but what am I doing wrong if I am really trying. My boyfriend says I am not giving myself enough confidence. He says that I always sound unsure of myself being able to pass this class. Does it work to have a positive attitude. I don't want to be over confident. I am afraid, I have a huge, my first lab test on Monday. How can I remember all of this. I just hope I can at least get a B on the next exam. Which is tissue and skin. Well thanks for letting me whine :crying2: This is definitly the hardest class I have taken yet, could it be if I am having trouble in this will I be able to handle Nursing School. This class to me requires so much time and I am willing to give it all that time, but now I am also afraid I won't be able to comprehend Nursing school. UGh I am so overwhelmed :scrying:

I'm currently going to Massage Therapy school while I wait to get into my nursing program, and they had this test available for us. For me personally, I pretty much learn in all ways, but for some there was more of a wider range. After we take the test, they give learning strategies which I thing is great.

A&P is a hard class but usually the first test is the hardest! dont get down on yourself. your next test should be a little easier now that you know how your teacher does his exams. flash cards didnt work for me i would just get very frustrated making them, and quit. but reading the chapters over and over helped me alot. and remember you will probably have to do a project and those are usually easy and that will be a large percentage of your grade your tests are not the only thing that is going to pass or fail you. good luck

i am taking a/p also, and it is a tough class. what i do is read the entire chapter before we start on that one, then go back and write my own notes in my own words. when i get to class i can better understand the instructor. after class, i make an outline of everything he went over and study it along with my own notes. i love this class, but there is just soo much info. to learn and memorize! best of luck to you!

That is ridiculous! So she thinks only 1 or 2% tops of the population is fit for nursing? That is pretty harsh. It is a difficult field, but not to that extent.

I agree 100% with you, but my teacher doesnt see it that way. If not smart enuff to be a doctor you dont deserve to be a nurse either in her opinion. Lucky me aye?:scrying:

I have a teacher like that also. You need a PhD in Biol and Chem and master the art of Crystal ball reading to do well in his class. My IQ must be 134 because I have the highest grade in the class which is NOT an A. Therefore I am not smart enough for nursing school. :)

I hear ya. Not to brag but I got 145 I.Q. and I'm one of 3 got 91%, one has 84% and the rest are 70% to 40% which exludes you from nursing school where I live. I struggling in the class and I study 30 hours a week. Pretty sad.

Wow, that is sad, indead! I was just joking, I don't know my IQ, but it can't be that low or I wouldn't be where I am at :) It's crazy...my instructor plays games and I just need to figure out how to play back. We are getting ready for the second lecture test and I came across a term in his 'syllabus' dealing with tissue. He never mentioned anything about this particular topic, so I looked it up anyway just in case he has a question about it on the test. It appeared in the chapter about the Immune system so here I am reading chapter 22. He does this alot and jumps around and expects you to know stuff from A&P 2, which he also teaches. I am coming to the conclusion that he cannot keep his courses straight. It is just so crazy and he keeps failing to give us direction and key us in on stuff......he also continuously insists on having told us stuff that he didn't.... I am the same way, and study endless hours. I am here for you if you need to vent, I am in the same situation.

Hang in there!

Don't let it get you down, I finished all my pre-req. I didn't do the greatest in A&P but I PASSED. I just took my first nursing test, I got an 84% (should have been an 88% I changed two questions) The point is, A and P is HARD, (possibly harder than the Nursing classes) just get through it the best way you can. #1 thing I learned is to TAKE A BREAK between studying- you can over study.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!

Thanks!!. A lot of responses on this website have mentioned A&P is a little bit harder than NS classes. Is that really true. Do you think those of us who survive A&P could adapt to NS? I just ask because even if i get thru these classes I am afraid when I reach the NS point of how hard it is going to be? Good luck to you throughout NS, You seem to be doing pretty good already. I just hope I manage to at least pull a B out of this class.

I did better in A&P lab then lecture (hated lecture), it's just too much, but, if you read between the lines and just study KEY words you will be okay. What I mean by key words is just to associate words and definitions by the words that are impotant ie: Anemia-decrease Iron ETC

Ask yourself what is important, and know it in YOUR words, if you know it in your own words- you will know it, another thing is exclude what is NOT the answer.

Absolutes are usually false in multiple choice questions, and if there are two choices that are similiar they are usually both wrong.

I have only taken one test so far. In nursing the NOTES are what is critical, at my school they are training you to PASS not confuse and frustrate you like I found in A&P. If you enjoy learning about health- YOU WILL DO FINE.

You know what was the hardest for me? College Algebra.

I have to say in all honesty to me A&P was way harder than nursing school is. I am in my third semester of a 5 semester program and am getting better grades in my nursing classes then I ever got in A&P. A&P is a lot of memorizing, nursing school is a lot more applying. You get to see why "it is what it is" instead of just learning what it is. Hang in there...heck I even thought Microbiology was easier than A&P was.... :lol2:

I, too, think Micro is loads easier than A+P was. I also thought A+P 1 was harder than A+P 2...I got A's in both but I lived and breathed A+P 6 days a week for hours at a time. I don't have to put nearly that much time into Micro- which is a blessing because I burned myself out by the end of A+P 2.

Hang in there....it's a monster course for sure...
