  1. That's very kind- that you would like to help, maybe you should just talk to his caregiver and express your concerns and then offer to help her with him occassionally. (hence Occassionally). I also think that it would be good for you to get or borrow a book from the library on good body mechanics. Also you should try to find outside resources to help with care, if he is disabled he should qualify for a Home health aide or CNA (maybe this could be your next part-time job, when you become a CNA). His caregiver is not physically able to care for him due to her obesity, she will soon require help herself. Good bless you-
  2. I had mine removed 4 years ago and have had no problems until recently- I can not eat greasy foods or I will fell nausea for 2-3 days. Good side is I shouldn't eat that stuff any way, other than that no problems.

  4. I'm in a RN program and I have found that the instructors are not very kind, I will admit in some cases they have aright to be aggravated but there is a fine line between being Rude and Nasty and being ticked off because, a student should have knowledge over a particular subject. I have had to call my instructor aside and put her in her place (sort of speak). Didn't get nasty or anything but, I did question her- of course that made her even more nasty, but the next day she was very sweet and has been ever sense with the exception of getting on me when I failed to be knowledgible. What I have learned and what I will pass on to you is... THIS IS YOUR LIFE... get what you came there to get- which is to become a nurse. Don't let her or anyone deter you from your goals! We are all stumblining fools at first- EXPERIENCE is what makes us professional... Believe me, when I sasy, I am a fool every Thursday (clinical conference) but, who cares it's an obstacle. You will make a Great Nurse just for the simple fact that you are afraid of failing- which will enable you to work even harder. Don't compare yourself to others- they are just as scared as you are- Go head with your bad self and DO IT- 7 more months to go (stop counting and just get to it!)
  5. I am a first year nursing student, I have an Associates Degree in Humanities and currently pursuing my AAS in Nursing- Question is when I become an RN, should I pursue a BSN or Bachelors in Healthcare Management. My plans are as follows: Floor Nurse 5-10 yrs. Management Position in Nursing 10-15 yrs Possibly work as a Teacher of Nursing until Retirement or School Nurse. What is the best choice. Also- I am considering becoming a NP eventually (maybe). By the way, my former supervisor who is the Head Nurse (Manager) does not have a BSN- she has a Bachelors in Management and an RN, and the other staff nurses with BSN who applied for the position did not get it- that's really the reason for the question.
  6. YES- if you have the will and desire you can do it. Keep those negative influences away from you- don't let them know anything. FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS and PRAY, PRAY, PRAY, PRAY and when you succeed then they will know. Hopefully your living situation is different now, your environment can either weigh you down or lift you up.- But you must believe in yourself first. Shake it off and go for it girlfriend!!!!!
  7. yes, it is acceptable if you are willing and comfortable doing it, whether you believe in it or not you have to really think about it- what would it do to the pt. or pt's family? what would it do to you? it would make you feel good, if you believe in it or it shouldn't hurt you it's saying some words if you don't believe. personally i would not want a non believer praying over me- but, god does love and listen to all. then again, if you really feel uncomfortabel then dont do it. i am not catholic- i just believe in a higher power and believe in christ as our example and that god is manifisted in him.:)
  8. What does in all mean when you have highs and lows.
  9. I have a test soon, Fluid and Electrolytes I will be tested on types of fluid solutions, who gets what and who does get what... For example: In a Isotonic Solution aka Lactated Ringer (normal saline 0.9% NaCl) you don't give to pt. with CHF, Liver failure or Renal Failure because it is used to increase intravascular space. Hypotonic Solution: Causes cells to swell - you use this for pt. when Hct is high and pt. using diaretics. (will show low BP) You never use for head trauma- so what would you use Hypertonic? Hypertonic- use for pt. with tube feeding - WHY? Please include anything else I can use for this fluid and electrolyte, Med Admin. and Acid Base Balance that may be useful. Test is Friday 11/4/05 Thanks
  10. I did better in A&P lab then lecture (hated lecture), it's just too much, but, if you read between the lines and just study KEY words you will be okay. What I mean by key words is just to associate words and definitions by the words that are impotant ie: Anemia-decrease Iron ETC Ask yourself what is important, and know it in YOUR words, if you know it in your own words- you will know it, another thing is exclude what is NOT the answer. Absolutes are usually false in multiple choice questions, and if there are two choices that are similiar they are usually both wrong. I have only taken one test so far. In nursing the NOTES are what is critical, at my school they are training you to PASS not confuse and frustrate you like I found in A&P. If you enjoy learning about health- YOU WILL DO FINE. You know what was the hardest for me? College Algebra.
  11. Reply Don't let it get you down, I finished all my pre-req. I didn't do the greatest in A&P but I PASSED. I just took my first nursing test, I got an 84% (should have been an 88% I changed two questions) The point is, A and P is HARD, (possibly harder than the Nursing classes) just get through it the best way you can. #1 thing I learned is to TAKE A BREAK between studying- you can over study. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!
  12. Maybe your daughter, should find another career path. However, I think WE ALL HAVE These doubts, difference is WE KNOW IT's NOT EASY. Sometimes book smart doesn't mean an A+ Nurse. She has 2 choices, hang in there or drop it and move on.
  13. Does anyone know of a website that has the drug info to make cards? Or a online med card?
