new l.p.n. stressed out
hi: I work in a nursing home/mental health facility. Most of our residents have health issues as well as mental health. The floor I have, majority are in w/c. I have 3 c.n.a's and a c.m.a, but we have 30 to 40 patients. I am working 12 hour shifts on Sat. and Sun. It is a lot of work but it is stressful. I keep wondering if this feeling is going to go away because I am new to the field. I get the feeling that because this place is desperate for help they are just glad to have anyone there. I am in fear if my c.m.a calls in I will have to do my job and hers. Sometimes i feel like I bit off more than I can chew but then I tell myself well I have to learn sometime. I have been told that this is how it is in nursing home when you are an l.p.n. Is that true?

New Here; Not Feeling Right During Clinicals
hi, i felt that way, i think a lot of people do. some people are better hiding it. i think a lot depends on the instructors too if they encourage you and promote your confidence. i went to a school where most of the instructors were like nazi's. i never felt confident in what i was doing and i didn't know if what i was doing was right, but at the end of the program it all clicked i got an instructor who just backed off and let me do my thing and i realized i can do this. when you get out there you will be surprised on how much you will remember and just know that the art of nursing isn't just what you learn in school it is the experience like any job. that is how you learn. i was you last august. don't worry you will be fine!

A few questions for the "older" new nurses...
I am 38 yrs old I have spent the past 2 yrs taking my prereq's and now in nursing school, LPN hoping to brigde this year. I like being around the patients but I can't stand my instructor. She makes me want to quit! Why do nursing instructor have to be so evil? I thought this was going to be a good experience and they have made it unbearable. They terrify us about every little thing and when you get out in your clinicals you find out things are different. I know i can do this I just wonder about what i'm being taught and how fast I'm being taught it. They also like the younger ones in the class 2 girls that are in my rotation are 21 yrs old I think sometimes they think because we are older we should know or have more common sense but this is new for me also I am learning. I want to stay in but at my age now I don't know if it is worth the hassel.

Possible Nurse Drop Out
Hi: I Just Started Lpn School And I Am Think About Quiting Already. My Instructor Is So Negative! She Says Thing To Embarass You And Make You Feel Stupid. She Talks About Other Students Behind Their Backs And She Has Used Profanity In Our Clinical Meetings Not Swearing At Us But Just In General. I Think She Is Very Unprofessional. My Whole Clinical Group Does. She Needs To Retire. I Think The Program That I Am In Is Not Very Good. This Is My 3 Rd Month And I Have Given About 6 Inj Done 3 Dressings And I Have Passed Meds A Total Of 1 1/2 Weeks. Oh Ya I Did A Supp. Is This How It's Supposed To Be? Everything Is So Quick Just When You Learn Something You Move On. This Is A 10 Month Program. My Worry Is That I Will Get Out And Not Be Prepared. I Want To Be A Good Nurse And Be Prepared. The School Keeps Telling Us They Are The Best Lpn School In The U.s. (kansas City Area) Also If You Know Anything About A Subject(medical) By Experience And You Voice That It Is Almost Held Against You.is This How It Is?

Advice
i'm glad to see you have a plan for your life! i am in nursing school now and i am 38 yrs old, it is great working with people but if you are going to do this you better have a thick skin! my clinical instructor is very intelligent but she can be very mean and insulting. i have read some things on here about experiences with instructors because i was thinking maybe it was just me! but i think it is a hazing they put you through! so be prepared!
