A & P 1 -- Fall 2010

Published

OK, I've started this thread for various past semesters and something always happened that made me have to drop the course.

But here I go again - just registered for A & P 1 for this coming fall!!!!! And I refuse to let anything get in my way this time...

So who's with me?

i am too taking a&p this fall! i start this saturday (21st). i am so nervous that i won’t do good and excited all at the same time. i bought all of my books last week and been looking though them to get an idea of what i will be learning. i have not taken science class in 9 years! i hope i do well as well as everyone else! i just was on amazon and order flash cards and study pages to get ready for the course. from reading on here i hear it was going to be challenging. i am so excited to start...i have taken 5 other non nursing classes but this one to me feels like something that i need to know like the back of my hand! i can’t wait to start to learn about the human anatomy!

good luck everyone!!

edit: i am only taking a&p 1 and math! i droped chemistry because i though it would be to much with two kids and everything and will be me more time to foces on a&p and get a good grade hopfully. fingers cross!!

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing so far? We are still covering the intro stuff, but today, started a unit on biochemistry....do the rest of you do chem in your A&P classes? I think it's great cause I could use the refresher! Really liking my prof so far too!:)

I know it's going to get more challenging, but I'm excited to learn more.

Would love to hear from others!

Glad to hear you are doing good so far. I am in my 3rd week (go once a week) we been leaning biochemistry. This week we will be talk about ph and bonds more then our first exam! then on to cells I believe. I glad that we learned chemistry because I have never taken a chemistry class.

Good luck!

Specializes in NICU, Cardiac.

We're also working on biochemistry as well. Our first test is Monday, so I'm getting ready for that. I'm taking this course online, and it's a ton of work. The only really positive thing is that my Micro class is covering basic chem stuff as well, so in studying, I'm basically studying the same things right now. That is really helping me retain the knowledge, since Chemistry is NOT my strong suit. LOL

I am taking Chem right now along with A&P. So far I have learned more about chemistry in my A&P studying then in any of me Chem classes so far! We still have another week or 2 until our 1st exam. I have a feeling though that a pop quiz is in order soon.

I am with you!!!!!! I am taking A&P 1 this fall along with Micro and a Phlebotomy course as well!!! Hoping to get into the program Fall of 2011 :)

Specializes in no experience yet.

We are just finishing our 3rd week and have done chemistry, biochem, cell biology and an overview of to expect from a&p. We have a lecture quiz and a lab test that we take every week and this week we have to do one of three of the pysio x assignments which I hear take a long time. Not to terribly hard yet, but it is A LOT of information to memorize. Next week is tissues and then we have our first lecture exam!

I do wish you luck. I wish you all the best and will be very interested to see how this goes for you, please pop back in and let us know.

Is it three hours a day 5 days a week? in that case, well, wow...

:)

A few years ago, I took a years' worth of Chemistry (with labs) in a summer, at a community college. It was a miserable experience. Or depending on how you look at it, I got it over with. My grades in it were not stellar; I earned a C and a B. It was not for a nursing degree, but for another degree that I obtained. We had a 3 hour lecture every morning, then a lab every afternoon, and I studied until 3 a.m., and was back at school by 8 a.m. The community college does not offer this type of scheduling for chemistry anymore. Guess they decided it was not a good idea.....

If you've already done basic anatomy, A&P I shouldn't be too bad.

In my opinion, I think there is a huge difference between Human Anatomy prerequisite (no lab), which I took last semester, and the Anatomy I with lab, which I am currently taking. Perhaps part of that is a different teacher. Also, I spend HOURS extra studying for the Lab quizzes, and I think that is a big part of the difference. I go back and forth between lab & lecture material.... Lots to learn.

Hi all! Checking in again to see how everyone is doing so far? I did really well on my first lab exam, 93, which I am very excited about! However, did not do so well on my 1st lecture exam....66 (D+). Ugh! :crying2: I have been bummed since I found out, but trying to take it as a wake up call to change my approach to the class. Obviously, I did not study/review the right way for me. I need at least a B in this class, so glad it is still early and I can make it up along the way.

Would love to hear how everyone else is doing? Also, are most of you applying for Fall '11? I am and I'm starting to work on my essay and application. Have to take the TEAS in January, which I'm also starting to prepare for. Let the stress begin!!

I need Help!!!! I really neep help in A & P... I totally need an A in this class to even have a chance to get in to the nursing program at my school. I dont know how to study for this class. We have currently taken three test and three practicals and i currently have a really low B. my instructor will drop the lowest test score which is a 70. so i still have a chance. PLEASE HELP!!!!!! we just started chapter 10 which is muscles.

Any Tips on how to study would be appreciated!!!!:loveya:

First off, I would suggest taking the VARK learning quiz, google it. It tells you how you learn best. It helped me A LOT!

For me, I study off what the prof gives us for a test study guide. She gives us the big subject, such as Protein Synthesis, then I re-write my notes for that subject and go over it and over it and over it...you get the point. GO OVER the subject until you can EXPLAIN it without looking at the notes to remember it. Then I also use "concept maps". I put the subject in the middle of a piece of paper, such a "Lipids" and circle it, then off of it I put "Functions" and try to write all the functions. Google concept maps if you don't understand. I also use the on-line resources to study, but that's only after I have learned the stuff from my notes, I use it to quiz myself. I hope some of this has helped. Try to not look at the big picture first, break down everything into smaller steps and take one step at a time. It's VERY EASY to get over-whelmed in this class, but if you break everything down and focus on one page of notes at a time, it will seem much easier to handle. Good luck!!!
