Has anyone taken the a&p exam through excelsior? I already have a&p 1 and now need a&p 2...i'm registered with edukan for the fall for a&p 2 but am considering just taking the excelsior exam. Any advice from someone who has taken it through excelsior would be great. Thanks!

I took A&P through Excelsior -- it's definitely a challenging exam! It's worth 6 credits, and covers two semesters' worth of material. However, if I recall correctly, a lot of schools won't accept EC classes like A&P, Micro, etc., that didn't have the usual labs. So if you want to transfer credits elsewhere for a future RN to BSN or something along those lines, you might want to consider that aspect. Does the EduKan online class include a lab?
Edukan's a&p does include a lab component.

I took A&P through Excelsior (got a B) and then was able to petition my college (Oklahoma University) to have it count as their A&P requirement--which they did. I hope this helps...
That's great!! That was the only complaint I had heard about EC's A&P -- that some places wouldn't take it. Good to know there are some that do. :) (I also got a B on the exam, and was happy with that ... that was one heck of a test!)

Anyone take both this and EC Microbiology? How do they compare? Micro kicked my butt. I got an A but barrrrrrrrrely and I still didn't feel like I knew the material well. I'm working on A&P now, taking more time with it and feeling positive about it. So now I'm wondering how the two tests compare.

This made me smile "I got an A and still didn't feel I knew the material well." Way to go! You must know it fairly well to get that A, cause you wouldn't get it if you didn't deserve it!!!
I have a general question here too, would it be better to do A&P first and then microbiology, or can they be done at the same time?

How long did you study? I am just trying to plan my method of attacking this material.

I don't recommend doing them at the same time. That would be pretty intense. I did micro with a public speaking course I had to do (still need to test on that one).
A&P isn't *hard* as in difficult to understand but there is just SO much info. I'm on the nervous system right now and lemme tell ya...my brain is about to have it's own "absolute refractory period" with all the stuff you have to know. I definitely get why a neurosurgeon is more prestigious then say a podiatrist. LOL!

Hi,
I did A&P first, studied 6 months and got a B. I took Micro immediately after, took 3 months and also got a B. These were the first 2 exams I took so I was extra sure I was prepared. I have been out of school 25 years so you can imagine my trepidation.
I have since took Pathophys,English Comp,Soc,Psych,LS Dev. Psych,Gerontology,A&I Literature and Inf Sys Comp App. Working on American History1 at present! I manage a CLEP Test a month. I hope to start Phase 2 of ISU Fall 2008 after completing the rest of my Prereq's.
Hope this helps.

P.S I work full-time!
I've been working on it about 3 weeks and I'm on chapter 7. Almost done with that though. Basically I'm just making sure I know each chapter well and taking whatever time I need rather than like with micro just reading it, answering questions and moving along (and cramming the week before the test).
My game plan at the moment is reading the whole chapter first, then going back and rereading it and highlighting and learning each section well before moving on to the next. Then answering the study questions. The anatomy and physiology coloring books are AWESOME and totally worth the extra money IMHO. Also, I google for online quizzes for each system and have had good luck with those too. A lot of textbooks have companion websites so practice quizzes are easy to find.
I'll let ya know how this plan works out. I just do not want to sit through another test praying fervently and sweating profusely like I did with micro! lol! :uhoh21:

OMG is all I can say. Can you tell me more about English Comp cause I think that's going to be the one that holds me right up and I am worried sick about it. The college network book I have tells things, but not as clearly as I must need, then asks you to do certain things, then there's no way to tell if you are right or not! I read somewhere in my travels that Excelsior won't take the CLEP Eng Comp.
I read all the time, I always had great grades in English and writing but I am finding this one very tough so far and I'm only on chapter 2 !
