Hi guys! I just have a quick question...
My A&P 1 class is super easy. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm grateful it's easy, but I'm concered that A&P 2 will kill me due to lack of knowledge from A&P 1. We did not have to learn the different tissues and we are only learning basic stuff on the skeletal system (main bones, nothing else) for example. We skip over things that I hear students in other classes fretting about learning and it scares me that I may not be getting the education I'm paying for. I do read and try to learn the material we don't go over, but (I hate saying this) I wish we were being held responsible to know it. Make sense? Anyway, how bad is A&P 2 going to be after getting spoiled in A&P 1?

My teacher was saying he is having this problem in his A&P II class - 27 A's in the class but obviously the teacher did not bother teaching them and now they are in big trouble. Can you shadow another class to see what they are learning, or even ask to switch classes? If not keeping reading and do online quizzes etc to try and make sure you do not get left behind.
Every teacher is different, but maybe talking to the head teacher of the subject and finding out their opinion would be worth a shot?

yea, sounds like thats going to be a problem...especially if you have a different a&p 2 teacher...this teacher probably wants to see their students succeed and wants to keep their pass rates up. i felt the same way about my statistics professor. the only things she graded were our tests which we could use our notes on!!! now granted i'm grateful that it was easy for the sake of my gpa but, did i learn anything? anatomy is such an important class for your nursing career as well. my grandmother (peds nurse) was telling me that she wished she remembered more from her anatomy class. i think you are doing the right thing by studying and doing more work on your own. maybe you could just study for the tests like they will be a lot harder, that way you will learn more thoroughly what other classes are learning!
good luck!!

Don't sell your Instructor short. You will know what they are teaching better NOW, by not being overwhelmed by things you will take later in more detail any way. So it may be SLIGHTLY easier later, but the older tried and true professors know how to sequence the knowledge for better results.
You will actually need to know what BOTH classes are teaching, and AP II is easier by all reports. You can only learn so much effectively, and the only reason to get overwhelmed is to be a coorifice FILTER to eliminate students, like Calculus I in a tough Engineering school. That or a new Instructor, ha-ha
Now if your APII instructor is harder, then that is better than a harder instructor in API! If you want the harder, 'can't speak English' Instructors for both, that should be easy to arrange :typing

My experience was that APII was a LOT harder, and I purposefully took very demanding professors for both classes.
Best of luck to you!

You didn't need to know different tissue types? I'd copy a syllabus from a student who is fretting and see what they are focusing on. If they are allowed to keep their tests, ask to look over them. Your book probably has a website- register there and take online tests and quizes.
And personally, I found A&P II much harder than A&P I. It was fewer chapters and systems in our book, but the physiology was more complicated, particularly the urinary system and everything we had to learn about the cardiovascular system. We definitely were expected to use a lot of our knowledge from A&P I, and I'm in micro right now and we're expected to be able to take concepts from A&P and apply the new info we're getting to them.

i though at 2 was easier then 1, then again our ap1 was not easy, no dissections, nothing like that, we barelly had labs, now on ap2 was mostly labs, presentations... so we studied hard on ap1 and ap2 just made sence!
Thanks for the advice everyone! I really appreciate the feedback.

I feel the same way.
Chapter one we barely covered anything - no body landmarks! I did that in high school and I was shocked to not even have it mentioned in class. Then I thought maybe we should learn it on our own.. but my professor has said only lecture notes will be tested on. eeek. I'm nervous for A&P2

We have an AP1 instructor at the college I go to that teaches for his benefit as well. Everyone calls him the 'mickey mouse' teacher.
I would suggest asking your intructor what the haps is, and ask him if he is preparing you for AP2 efficiantly. If he gets offended or stumbles for words then drop it and retake it with someone else because most likely your going to regret it later. Thats just me though, and thats exactly what I did.
Some people learn easier solo then others, and Im not one of those people. I would also be afraid to take AP2 after a simple AP1 and wouldnt risk it.
You could always take 2 with the same person you took 1!

My A&P isn't easy. It's fast paced and has a lot of chemistry interspersed with it which is challenging for me because I haven't had chemistry since h.s. which was a long time ago. And my h.s. chemistry was not all that complex. Anyway in your shoes I would just take the class for what it's worth and not worry about it. Since it's easy then that means you should have extra of time for supplemental reading on topics where you feel you aren't getting enough info in class - and there is scads of it out there. I have no time for supplemental reading right now so I am already scheduling outside reading for semester break. If you read up on your own you should be fine.

I have this fear too. Not about the lecture per se, its the lab. I feel like our instructor is going SO easy on us. For example, fir our histology quiz, she put the pictures FROM THE TEXT on the overhead and had us ID them. We didnt have to look at any slides for the quiz, even thought we did so in lab. Our lab practical midterm and final are departmental, and I am pretty positive we are going to have to look at slides for the exams, at least thats what other students are saying. The slides we looked at look NOTHING like the pictures in the book. Ive been doing well on the quizes, Im just terrified that Im going to bomb the midterm because she has been going easy on us.
