Trump races to fix a big mistake: DOGE fired too many people
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/06/06/doge-staff-cuts-rehiring-federal-workers/
QuoteAcross the government, the Trump administration is scrambling to rehire many federal employees dismissed under DOGE's staff-slashing initiatives after wiping out entire offices, in some cases imperiling key services such as weather forecasting and the drug approval process.
Since Musk left the White House last week, he and Trump have fallen out bitterly, sniping at each other in public over the cost of Trump's sweeping tax legislation and government subsidies for Musk's businesses. But even before that, the administration was working to undo some of DOGE's highest-profile actions.
It took a DOGE committee, headed by an addicted billionaire, to decide which people to fire but apparently it doesn't require a committee to determine that the firings were haphazard and damaging.
QuoteTrump officials are trying to recover not only people who were fired, but also thousands of experienced senior staffers who are opting for a voluntary exit as the administration rolls out a second resignation offer. Thousands more staff are returning in fits and starts as a conflicting patchwork of court decisions overturn some of Trump's large-scale firings, especially his Valentine's Day dismissal of all probationary workers, those with one or two years of government service and fewer job protections. A federal judge in April ordered the president to reinstate probationary workers dismissed from 20 federal agencies, although a few days later the Supreme Court — in a different case — halted another judge's order to reinstate a smaller group.
Chaos is Trump's calling card.

For comparison, watch this to see brilliant people in action over the years and apparently collaborating well :-
Watch the whole thing but the important parts are from 0:40.
Should add, who are these brilliant men that Musk is supposed to collaborate with? Trump certainly isn't one of them, and I would struggle to describe anyone in his cabinet as adequate, never mind brilliant.

Speaking of weather predictions a Florida weather person on air stated he's concerned about the accuracy of predicting hurricanes here in Florida.
Hurricane predictions I've noticed in the 30 years I've lived here has been really fined tuned to a good accuracy. When they say you're going to be hit, you get out of the way. No guessing. I'm hoping things continue this way going forward.
QuoteMorales called it a "multigenerational impact on science" and cited statistics showing that South Florida NOAA and NWS offices are 20 to 40 percent understaffed. He said we may no longer know a hurricane's true strength until it makes landfall.
"This type of staffing shortage is having impacts across the nation because there's been a nearly 20 percent reduction in weather balloon launches that carry those radio signs, and what we are starting to see is that the quality of the forecasts is becoming degraded," he added.

Luttnick said in his testimony yesterday that they intend to use AI for severe weather predictions and warnings. They will launch weather balloons in an automated system. AI will analyze the weather data and develop the guidance and warnings for the public.
How many tornado or hurricane seasons might it take to work the bugs out of the system? Any guesses? It didn't take AI very long to learn that we generally have 2 arms or legs and 5 digits on each hand. What could go wrong?

Obvious bias as even most leftists acknowledge Vance and Bessent's brilliance. Trump isn't quite as sharp as he used to be but his business acumen cannot be denied. How much did he just make off cryptocurrency? 2.5 billion? More than you can even fathom.
The good thing is the adults are back in charge. The border is being secured and tax inequality is being addressed. I am still upset that Medicaid and other entitlement programs haven't been cut nearly as much as they should, but it hasn't been that long.

How man miles are on it?

Seriously? Do you have any idea what you are saying? Trump would be better off if he had just sat back and lived off his inheritance. Who bankrupts a casino? Trump Steaks?
The art of the deal was the worst deal - for him - that was ever made. Or the best deal a ghost writer ever made. The writer got $250,000 and 50% of the royalties. Look up "The Trump Clause" in New York business dealings.

Actually, I wrote this then realised that you would think that is a good thing - profiting while everything else goes down the tubes. Let's be clear - it is not a good thing.

That actually says more about you than anything else.
A civilization is measured by how it treats its weakest members. The greatness of a nation can be judged by how it treats its weakest member.

If Trump sat back and rode the market, he would not be nearly worth as much as he is right now. You have no idea how much the man is worth and his service towards his country cannot be denied. He reportedly just made 2.5 billion from crypto, do you think sitting back and doing nothing would make more than that? When you start thousands of ventures it's not surprising that they don't all succeed.
"Forbes estimates Trump's net worth at $6.7 billion. He currently ranks 319 in Forbes 400 list 2024. Meanwhile, Bloomberg Billionaires Index puts Donald Trump's net worth at $7.16 billion. But that does not include the value, at least on paper, of the new $Trump coin or his earnings from World Liberty Financial (WLF)."
Trump would not be worth 6.7 billion+ if he just rode the market. The man has created thousands of jobs, ventures, and has literally put his life on the line to fight authoritarianism. His greatness cannot be denied.
Bessent...did you even read what you posted? HIs group profited a billion dollars? That is incredible.....
Enabling laziness and further exploiting hard working Americans is not a good attribute. Republican states like Florida have done all they can to help encourage lower socioeconomic status citizens to choose to succeed. Mandatory financial literacy classes, reducing entitlements that discourage upward mobility. We still need to do a lot more. Every American should read Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead before they finish high school.

Above two have been done while he was in office as president. Are you really happy with someone and their family profiting from being the President? Dictators in Banana republics do this, Putin does this, Kim Jong-Un does this. The royal families in the middle east do this. By the way, apparently it is OK to kill American journalists as long as you give the president an aeroplane.
Kafka Fan44 said:...and has literally put his life on the line to fight authoritarianism.
Hardly "put his life on the line". Yes he was shot at which was horrendous but he immediately turned it into a meme. What "authoritarianism" is he fighting against? This new "Big Beautiful Bill" seems to be making the way for authoritarianism. Even people who initially voted for it are having second thoughts.
Kafka Fan44 said:His greatness cannot be denied.
😂🤣🤣😂😅🤣🤣
Oh yes it can. The man is a buffoon. Arrogant, Ignorant and Narcissistic.
Kafka Fan44 said:HIs group profited a billion dollars? That is incredible.....
Yes against a backdrop of Black Wednesday. In 1997, the UK Treasury estimated the cost of Black Wednesday at £3.14 billion, which was revised to £3.3 billion in 2005.
Yes the British government (a Conservative one) caused the problems, but the Soros group profited from it.

I'm not American, I'm Scottish and have not read "Atlas Shrugged" (I did have a look at the synopsis). Instead I read "1984", "Animal Farm" and "On Tyranny".
Bless your heart. You have yourself the weekend you deserve.
