Hi All,

Finally, I decided to go back to India for my further studies. I am an RPN in Canda and did my 2 yrs nursing Diploma from Humber college in 2009. I want to go to India for B.Sc Nursing. ANybody has an idea of evaluation process in india?? Do I have to start from the scratch in order to do the Nursing degree program in India...which means 4 years???

I wrote couple of emails to nursing council of India but no replies yet.

Thanks

One thing I will advice is check with the provincial college that they will accept your application if you plan on returning to Canada

I contacted CNO and they said that they will do my evaluation as an international student.

Worked with several Indian nurses who didn't require upgrading/conversion. They were all experienced nurses not new grads

Yea, I know some nurses from India do not need to upgrade and on the contrary some have go to colleges for upgrading.............i think it depends on the # of yrs of experience.

A couple of the HCA who work with me are RNs from India. Both had worked in India before immigrating to Alberta, both require academic upgrading to meet Alberta RN requirements.

@rinks2010 : sorry for the late reply... and sorry about the irresponsible behaviour from INC... its pretty much like that... well for your question, if you plan on doing the B.Sc. Nursing (equivalent to the RN-BSN programme abroad) you would have to do 4 years at a stretch... education system in India are still rigid and forgot to tell you is one pretty tight package...

Now lets talk about the conversion of a foreign degree... For docs they have the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Exam conducted by the Medical Council of India)... For nurses you have "no exam" and "no conversion"... If you go to the council and get your application filed for it then you'll have one hectic task of proving several things... For example i believe you have the credit based scoring system for you RPN program, but here there are virtually no credit based system... the credit based system to be converted to the marks system with theory and practical hours for individual subjects quoted is kinda difficult. Plus if you have any missing hours or subjects there no option of completing that alone, yet... One of my teacher who did her MSN in US had shared her experience on how hard it was for her to convert her MSN (US) to M.Sc. Nursing (IN)... but she never had any trouble converting B.Sc. Nursing (IN) to BSN (US)...

The best option for you would be to consider would be doing a BSN program in Canada or US or NZ... I have heard that there is country called Saint Lucia that offers you BSN program and is affordable as well... please don't take my words too seriously and do look up every detail...

The decision would depend on where you want to be working... if you plan to be in India then choosing a B.Sc. Nursing program would be okay, but if you want to work abroad its better to do a degree in and around that place... Job openings are plenty in India but only worthwhile if you get in Central Government run institutions... ESIC, AIIMS, JIPMER etc... plenty of ESIC openings are there for the time being but don't know how it will be four years later...

Hi

I must say that is an excellent explanations of how thinks work, or rather don't work in India. Anyway@rinks2010 you should seriously reconsider coming to India because of the above said reasons ..in short you will probably never be able to convert your diploma as a nursing diploma is 31/2 years and BSN is 4years .plus you need to get into a good institution and be assosiated with an international level hospital for clinical exposure and mediocre nursing schools are mushrooming up everyday. So unless you are willing to start from scratch,ie right from entrance exams to 4 years of full time study, don't risk it friend :)

i know that it is pointless to bump on this post again but in any case rinks2010 needs any help, do check out this link

Indian Nursing Council, Official indian nursing council website, Government India, Establish Uniforms Standards, Training Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors

follow the link, and the pdf files should tell you the story...

I have not heard of success stories, or rather any stories at all, (expect for my Tutor from college) if you need any assistance, do PM... take care... and we can get whatever information from one of the state nursing councils for as long as i'm India. take care... rock on as a nurse...

you guys were right........I didn't get any credit for my canadian studies  in India.
