Transcript Evaluation

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

So, I have been playing with the idea of going to . I managed to get my very old transcripts sent to WGU in February or March.

Finally, 3 months or so later, I get the transcript eval back in my email. Since many of my classes were taken in the late 80s, I did not expect them to accept many of them. To my surprise, they were very generous with what they accepted as "met".

Basically, all prereq classes except Statistics, Health Assessment and Biochemistry are "met". So just these 3 classes and the 11 nursing classes would be needed. A total of 34 CUs and 14 classes for the BSN (though I'm considering the MSN...or was, until they started the 3 P's nonsense).

Is this pretty standard? How long, generally, would you say the average person would take to complete 34 CUs?

I keep trying to find excuses not to do it, but the school keeps removing those excuses. Darn them. :)

Sloolrn - I do not have to take Stats, I have already taken it and it did transfer over, thank goodness!

Nursevicki - It's just aggravating that we take these classes and get NO credit for them, that's all. So, ultimately I wasted almost $2,000 on two History classes that mean NOTHING at this point! Glad to hear I got credit for the HA class then if it is a "bear."

If it makes you feel any better (it probably won't), I did 3 semesters in the bridge program at Frontier Nursing University before I realized that I wanted my BSN, and I dropped out of the program. That was $10,000. The only class that I was able to get credit for was stats.

Specializes in Critical Care, Dialysis, School Nursing.

@Nursevicki... go for it if you have 25 hours a week of spare time and are motivated!!! oh and you are SOOOOOOOOOO LUCKY you don't have to take stats!!!! was so hard!

Well thank you Klone! That kind of makes me feel a little better..but I'm still mad as heck, lol...I even vented to my enrollment counselor today about this, hahaha..her poor ear!

I have to take TONS of extra classes since I went to Excelsior for my RN. They didn't accept my physiology OR my micro. I had a sociology clep, but clep won't send scores older than 20 years so I am stuck taking anthropology. They used my french class for speech, so I am set there, but now I have to take a literature course. And of course I need to take biochem, stats, health assessment and nutrition. Only other things my AS was good for were history, math and english.

But the classes really do fly by! I took physiology over a weekend and finished the lab a few days later (like this morning at 2AM ROFL). Already done with stats, assessment and nutrition. Working on biochem starting tomorrow and I am trying for a week on that one. So anyone who needs extra stuff, don't stress TOO much. It's not like you must sit six weeks in each class. :)

I will graduate in December 2014 and will apply for the rn-bsn program right away. I already have a bachelors degree.

Do they require statistics and nutrition be recent?

I took Stats and Nutrition class over 10 years ago. But I heard in a BSN info session that if you just graduated, then you have just been using your "nutrition" knowledge as part of the RN program in the last 2 years, thats why they dont require recency for Nutrition. Probably not the same at ?

"Intro to General, inorganic, and biochemistry" 5 units. Will this transfer to WGU? I also took the class over 10 years ago.

Thank you

Just a heads up, you have to be employed as an RN before you can apply to the program.

I know for sure that stats has to be less than five years (from enrollment counselor). I have read posts from others on here that biochem has to be a straight-up, full, biochem course. Not just a class that has biochem included. Good luck :)

Klone and Kayemin, thank you. I didn't know you have to be employed as an RN to apply. Can I still apply even if I've only worked for a week or less? :) I really want to get started as soon as I can.

Absolutely. Although I've been an RN since 2009, I started a new job literally two weeks before I started the WGU application process. They confirm your employment when you submit your resume and through the background check.
