Collin College ADN Spring 2015

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! I didn't see a thread for Collin College Spring 2015 (July 31 deadline), so I thought I'd start one, especially since there seems to be a whole new point system that they will be implementing for the first time. I plan on trying to apply (also applying here in Sugar Land to WCJC and in Alvin at ACC).

I have a previous degree from Arizona for Computer Science (really doesn't do me much good! lol) but after 9yrs working in IT, I finally admitted that it wasn't fulfilling -took the leap of faith and decided to go back to school to become a nurse. My dream is to one day soon work in home hospice care.

I went to the Collin College nursing info session about a month ago (March 2014) and am taking the PSB exam on Mon May 5. I am not entirely sure how the new point system compares to the old one, but it seems like there are a lot more points involved and I wonder what this means in terms of a the new "minimum" number of points. I know before 16pts was great, 15pts was good and 14pts was iffy to get in. With the new point system, I am aiming for 29 of the 34 max points -we'll see! Does anyone know how that might stack up?

Anyone else trying to apply for Spring 2015?

Congratulations!

That's awesome, Razorback5! Please keep me updated on them as a learning institution. Everyone's opinion is different, and I don't want to rule them out just because a few have said they are ''country'' and ''not very good''. I would have applied for their Spring 15 application but I haven't taken speech yet and I didn't take the HESI :(

I might apply in January.

I agree with you on this. I am so frustrated with the requirements continually changing. I have already earned my associates and was in very good standing on the old 16 point system (I had 15 points) now on this new 34 point system i have 22 points. I was devastated when I saw the change. I feel as though I have wasted 2 years taking pre reqs and co reqs that you don't even need. Ironically the courses we no longer need are the courses i excelled in and my GPA dropped because they are no longer factored in to your overall GPA. Also you can't take the Honor's Courses unless you have a 3.5 GPA so it really is setting the bar extremely high. I called the Dean of Students to see if I would be allowed to take psychology as an honor's course because my overall GPA is a 3.46 (SO CLOSE!) and the only class bringing my GPA down is psychology i took it fresh out of high school (10 years ago) and didn't take the class seriously; ironically if I retake it and get an A my GPA would be high enough to than take the honor's courses but thanks to the three-peat rule I wouldn't be able to take it as an honors class. Sorry to vent on here so much but seeing your post was encouraging to see I'm not the only one that feels as though they have been let down by this new point system.

Please, everyone who gets accepted to the Spring 2015, post the number of points you had on the new 34 point system so that we can all get some idea of the minimum points needed to get accepted. If anyone gets hard info from the Collin staff about the cut-off on points, post that please.

Well, it's been 4 whole weeks since I turned in all my stuff and 2 whole weeks since deadline. Is anyone else falling into the trap of checking their email and mailbox for the SMALL hope that they made their choices super quickly??? I can't help it. I have never been good at waiting. :nailbiting:

I wonder if it will be like last year, and the letters will go out around September 26th? I also wish they would send the reject letters out first, and get those out of the way.

Golonurse: I was hoping we would have more traffic on this thread

They told me we'd hear results by mid-Oct, so don't hold your breath too long ;)

When they told you mid-Oct did they give you any idea as to what the number of points needed would look like or how many people applied this application process?

Not sure on the # of applicants, but she did seem to think that no one would have the 4pts for honors classes yet, so 30 might be the highest possible # of pts for Spring 2015 applicants.

.. Did you guys take Micro 2420 or 2421? I was looking at the TWU website and they have 2421 on their course description... .. I took 2420

When speaking to an advisor she said that since no one will have the honors classes yet, those 4 points probably won't matter for at least a year or so. I would count your points and apply them to 30 points instead of 34.

TWU will let you apply with micro for non-science majors...i had a heart attack when i saw that as well! my advisor at TWU let me know that they would take either since TWU does not offer a science/nonscience option for micro.
