  1. I'm curious about A&P1. It seems that many of the people on these boards have straight A's. More power to you. But when I took A&P1 at Collin, I made a B and my grade was the highest in the class. About half the class failed. So I'm curious how so many others have A's in that course. It may be that my professor was just a very hard grader or maybe the class had a lot of people who were not so academically inclined. Any thoughts? Did anyone who made an A in A&P1 take it at Collin. If so, who was your professor? Thanks.
  2. Here's the latest RN pass rates I was able to find for Collin College: 2010 - 97.4%, 2011 - 87.4%, 2012 - 98.1%. For Grayson CC the pass rates are: 2010 - 96.9%, 2011 - 90.5%, and 2012 - 91.1%. For U.T. Arlington (this would be for their BSN program), the pass rates were: 2010 - 92.5%, 2011 - 93.2%, and 2012 - 95.1%. For U.T. Austin (again their BSN program) the pass rates were: 2010 - 94.2%, 2011 - 91.9%, and 2012 - 95.4%. From this, I think we could say that, on the RN exam, Collin is better than either the UT Arlington or UT Austin BSN program, judging just on pass rates (not on actual nursing skill of graduates). The 2011 year was unusually bad for most of the schools. Grayson shows up well but slightly less competitive.
  3. It's true that few Collin College applicants will have taken honors courses (except maybe in Psych), because they were seldom offered until now. But remember that other colleges offer honors courses and this may give applicants from outside Collin a big advantage. I've heard also that A&P1 at other schools is not nearly so difficult as it is at Collin, so you can expect some applicants from other schools to be applying with all As. Sorry to sound so negative but this sudden change in the point system without providing advance notice to us is really unfair to the students at Collin. I'd write a complaint letter to the administration but then they'd deny me admission for sure.
  4. I've heard that each Collin College nursing class accepts about 30 students out of about 200 applicants. If that's true, that's actually a lower acceptance rate than in most medical schools. The average person accepted to med school has a 3.5 GPA and we worry about not getting into nursing school if we make one B in A&P. Of course, the medical school applicants all have bachelor's degrees, but they take a lot of fluff courses along with their 30 semester hours of biology and 8 hours of organic chemistry (that's a hard course).
  5. Please, everyone who gets accepted to the Spring 2015, post the number of points you had on the new 34 point system so that we can all get some idea of the minimum points needed to get accepted. If anyone gets hard info from the Collin staff about the cut-off on points, post that please.
  6. It seems that the Spring 2015 class will be the first one to go through the new 34-point admissions system. I guess we won't really know what the point cut-off is until after the Spring 2015 class is admitted and puts something online. Given how the 16-point system worked, I'm expecting to see the cut-off at around 30, 31, maybe 32. Remember also that the Fall of 2015 class will be the first class to use the new health science center at the Central Park campus. I would think that the size of the class admitted would rise, but I don't know. It's my understanding that the limiting factor with nursing schools is being able to hire qualified nursing professors with MSNs and significant experience. I'm still very disappointed with the new point system and expect that I will not be admitted even if I have all A's and one B in A&P1 (and no honors classes). I'm already making plans to apply to El Centro and Grayson, although either will be a huge commute for me. Life's not fair, I guess. If anyone hears anything about the new point system cut-off or about the number to be admitted when the new health science center at CP opens, please post here and let us know.
  7. I'm upset with the new point system because it gives up to 4 extra points for having taken Biol 1406, Psyc 2301, Psyc 2314, and the humanities course as honors courses (an A is 1 point and a B is 1/2 point). They do this after I've taken three of the courses and am now signed up for the fourth with no honors course offered for it in the summer. Losing those four points will probably keep me out of Collin's nursing school, so I'm totally frustrated. I've got an A in everything except a B in Biol 2401 (where half the class failed), but I guess I'm not good enough for Collin.
