Hello everyone! I didn't see a thread for Collin College Spring 2015 (July 31 deadline), so I thought I'd start one, especially since there seems to be a whole new point system that they will be implementing for the first time. I plan on trying to apply (also applying here in Sugar Land to WCJC and in Alvin at ACC).
I have a previous degree from Arizona for Computer Science (really doesn't do me much good! lol) but after 9yrs working in IT, I finally admitted that it wasn't fulfilling -took the leap of faith and decided to go back to school to become a nurse. My dream is to one day soon work in home hospice care.
I went to the Collin College nursing info session about a month ago (March 2014) and am taking the PSB exam on Mon May 5. I am not entirely sure how the new point system compares to the old one, but it seems like there are a lot more points involved and I wonder what this means in terms of a the new "minimum" number of points. I know before 16pts was great, 15pts was good and 14pts was iffy to get in. With the new point system, I am aiming for 29 of the 34 max points -we'll see! Does anyone know how that might stack up?
Anyone else trying to apply for Spring 2015?
Got my acceptance letter today! So excited! I really had to work my butt off to make this happen! Guess I will see y'all in Nov!
Here are my stats for anyone curious: 29pts, missing the honors pts & 1pt for not having taking A&P II yet (taking it now), 4.0 in all classes (except for Biology, which I took a long time ago with an A, but used CLEP score for the point), 6 points on PSB, non-resident & no classes taken at Collin (but Texas resident), previous magna cum laude BS degree (totally unrelated in Computer Science), no fluff sent in with my application besides my personal statement.
Hi, I'm Alicia. I also have been accepted to the Collin College ADN program for Spring 2015. I had 30 of 34 points (no honors classes), A's in all my pre-reqs and co-reqs and a 6 on the PSB. I CLEPed Bio 1406/1407 in Fall of 2012 but completed all of my other classes at Collin and live in Collin County. I'm an older student; I originally attended the University in Oklahoma as a theatre major in the early 1990's. I have completed all of my immunizations except for my last Hep B #3 and my flu shot/TB test. I was told during a pre-nursing seminar that it is best to wait for the latest version of the flu and TB can be completed anytime prior to March 15.
KristineMB-When I called the nursing office after receipt of my acceptance letter they said that CPR classes are offered monthly thru the school....just call up there and they will give you dates. I have tried accessing the IdentiGO website, but as of today, still unable to register for my fingerprint appointment. Have you had any luck? I was told that it may take up to 2 weeks for the BON to enter the names/ss #'s of all accepted students and to keep trying.
I look forward to meeting everyone at the orientation meeting next month!
Hi Alicia! Congrats and welcome! I look forward to meeting you next month!
I haven't had any luck with that background check website either - good to know it's not just me. Hopefully that will open up soon.
I have CPR already from my CNA training. I think all I need is one last Hep A shot!

Congrats to you too Diana! Can't wait to meet you also! Kristine, I did not have any honors extra points, and I was missing the point for micro, as I'm taking it now. I have a 4.0 GPA, scored a 6 on the PSB, and am a Collin resident. I'm sure you will get your letter Monday, fingers crossed for you!
