Alvin Community College ADN Spring 2015

Starting a thread for people applying for Spring 2015 at Alvin Community College. Also wondering if anyone knows what counts as proof for Hepatitis B immunity?

Hello everyone. Yesterday I paid for my Precheck and FBI background check. I went to Alvin Friday to try and take care of my financial aid situation. I am having to appeal because I already have an AA degree from taking all the prerequisites for a BSN program. Hopefully I will be able to get some assistance because it will hurt my family financially if we have to pay out of pocket. The deadline to appeal is Nov. 5th so please go visit them and handle your business with financial aid asap if you have not done so already.

@vslater, trust me I totally understand because I too already have a degree and I refuse to take out anymore student loans. But I was just awarded a scholarship which covers tuition & books so please look into outside scholarships, they are very easy to get and not many people are utilizing them. I also heard you can get assistance through the worksource, (they have a program/grants specifically designed for the nursing program.) I previously completed my FBI Background Check and received my blue card for another college and I have also paid for PreCheck last Friday. I'm waiting closer to Dec/Jan to get my CPR card done.

One more thing @vslater, I am only working part time so I do not qualify for insurance but I was told by other nursing students to apply for the Gold Card and got approved. Under the gold card I was able to do all immunizations (I got titers ran), physical exam and got my flu vaccine for under $10. So for those of you in this situation here is the site to apply: https://www.harrishealth.org/en/patients/access-care/eligibility-card/pages/eligibility-application.aspx

That is awesome. Thank you. I was also accepted into HBU but I just sent the decline letter in this morning. My hubby and I have 4 boys so Alvin's tuition is more fitting financially for us. I am a domestic engineer (stay at home mom) so scholarships would certainly help. Plus Alvin has an higher NCLEX pass rate than HBU. Has anyone started a facebook page for our cohort so that we can keep in touch?

Yeah, I applied to HBU too then reconsidered when I saw the tuition cost! As far as the facebook page, I don't think I saw one for Alvin...if so, please include the information on here so that we can all join :)

@vslater, if time permits, do you mind creating the facebook page?

Just got my acceptance email! Huge relief!

Congrats @derrick86!!! What number were you on the waitlist? Just wondering how many people declined because of other schools and what not

I started at #9

Wow. So 25% of the initially accepted group (assuming they admitted 40) declined. That seems like a substantial number. Just goes to show that people shouldn't give up! Congratulations!

I can believe it. Another school that I applied to has yet to send out notifications so I am for sure that they will lose applicants too! But @houtxn I could of swore Alvin accepted 40 initially & 20 were waitlisted?? At any rate, getting in to Alvin is a blessing and it's not how you start it's how you finish!!! Congrats again to those who received acceptance, I can't wait to meet everyone at Orientation on the 5th!!!! :)

Now I'm wondering how many people really did decline for whatever reasons & did they take in all of those who were waitlisted 1-9? If so, we should have more people in the forum receiving acceptance. ..possibly?? :)
