Hello everyone. If I am wanting to apply for the Southwest Tenn. Nursing program for Spring 2011, do I have to have all pre course work completed prior to submitting my application? For instance, I will not be able to take Microbiology until Fall 2010. I know the deadline is Oct. 15 for the Spring program. Does anyone know if they will consider me as an applicant while waiting on my Micro grade? Thanks!! ]

They do offer Micro in the summer term. That is when I took it so I could be done with it by the deadline. They usually offer it for the whole summer or one short term summer session. I took the short term summer class so I could have a little time off from school. It was five weeks long four nights a week but it was worth it.

i'm hoping that i will be able to get a micro class for summer term ii. i was so lucky to get an a&p1 class in the evening for spring 2010. i had been searching the class schedules day and night for days when all of a sudden they added an additional a&p1 class. now i just have to keep my fingers crossed that there will be an a&p2 class offered summer term i. @ bluffcitytn, did you find the short term micro class to be very challenging? i hope i'm not setting myself up for disappointment or academic suicide, but i just wanted to get the remaining pre-reqs in two semesters so that i can apply for spring 2011 entry into swtcc's nursing program.

Can anyone tell me what happens at orientation? Is that when you pay? I am trying to get my finances in order and my financial aid seems to be held up. Will financial aid pay directly to the school or to me? Im worried Orientation time (the 7th) will roll around and I wont have a clue as to what I am to pay or getting booted out of a class because of the inability to pay on that day. Any hints?:uhoh3:

micro was challenging in the summer, but it was definitely worth it. i looked at like this. it was certainly something i could handle for a month. it went by very quickly and i found myself wishing i had more time because we skipped over a lot and it was very interesting. i recommend the instructor i had, he was fantastic. he emailed us all of our class notes on powerpoint and that is exactly what he went over in class. i made an a and all i had to do was study the notes i took in class. also ask your a&p i teacher if they think you will be able to handle it based on how you perform in their class this spring. i asked my a&p ii instructor before i signed up for the short term summer session and he really thought i would have no problem. he was right. just take advantage of every study opportunity you have. i think going to class four nights a week helped because it stayed so fresh on your mind. i hope this helps.

@ bluffcitytn, thanks for your response. that piece of info makes me feel so much better. i start my a&p i class next week. of course i'm praying that they offer a&p ii 1st term summer and micro 2nd term summer. i just want to make sure i have all pre-reqs so that i can apply for spring 2011. at this point, i have no time for failure and i know that anything can be done when you put your mind to it.

hey nikki,

i am also trying to get into the spring 2011 semester. i also have all my prerequisites done except a&p 1/2 and micro. i am too taking a&p 1 this semester and hoping to take a&p 2 and micro over the summer semester. i have a friend who was able to do this and she informed me as long as you study every opportunity you get it's not any more or less difficult than taking it during the summer or fall. best of luck to both of us :nurse:

to all of you ladies and maybe gentlemen that are familiar with STCC in memphis...I have a question, i've been going to stcc and i've done really good in all my prequesites, ellectives, etc. I'm actually done with all of them and ready to take my pre-admission test and apply for the program, however years ago i was in a completelly different major in stcc as well (architectural tech), but i was fresh out of high school, didn't care, fooled around and got really bad grades :crying2:...all of those courses in which i got bad grades on have nothing to do with nursing, but of course they are affecting my overall GPA...so what i've wondered for the longest is if that will hurt my chances of getting accepted into the nursing program...???

I've spoken to a couple of counselors and they told me that i will probably not hurt my chances since they are not nursing related, that what weights the most are A&P I/II and micro and your pre-adm exam, it feels however that those counselors just wanna get you out of their offices STAT!! lol...

Anyway, any personal experiences out there with something similar to what's happening to me?

Thanks for any replies....

You are ranked solely by your admission index score. As long as you meet the minimum requirements and your admission score is in the top 60, you get in. I had the minimum GPA required, A's in Micro, A&P 1&2, and a 150 on the NLN. I got in.

I did the same thing a couple of times actually. I went first for Electrical Engineering Technology and quit and then went back and tried Computer Engineering and I made a couple of really bad grades. I did re-take one class a few years later and made a better grade which wiped out the bad grade; however I still have one bad grade on my transcript pulling my overall gpa down. I made A's in A&P I, II and Micro and scored 124 on the NLN and I start the program this week. A's in A & P and Micro will pull up your gpa. The science courses are the most important for your admission index score. Good Luck and I hope this helped.
