  1. SA6847, I am curious how many people did you start with? I have heard the day program accepts 120 and the evening accepts 60. As far as no one getting an A in the classes, I agree with you, there must be a problem and I don't believe it is the students. I just started the program this January and I, just like everyone else have worked my butt off to get into the program, and I feel like I am talked to like a child, but mostly I feel as if we are being set up to fail. Our first test was over 17 chapters and our teacher only lectured on maybe 3 - 4. I want to be a great nurse, and I want to learn, but I feel like they are pushing so much so fast, that I am not going to be competent when I do start my clinicals at the hospital. It scares me half to death. I am going to look for the Reviews and Rationales books and see if that helps. Do the nurses at the hospitals help you?
  2. Thanks for the information. Great Thread:yeah:
  3. Okay we have only been in school 2 weeks and I am exhausted, worried, stressed and completely overwhelmed, and my teacher talks way to fast for us to take notes ( who writes that fast, I wish I knew shorthand). I thought we had to learn a lot of information in Microbiology short term summer session (HAH!) nothing compares to how much material we have to go over in Foundations I. I am determined to make it through though. I can be sleep deprived until summer. I would greatly appreciate any advice 2nd year or 2nd semester students could share. Good Luck everybody.
  4. I did the same thing a couple of times actually. I went first for Electrical Engineering Technology and quit and then went back and tried Computer Engineering and I made a couple of really bad grades. I did re-take one class a few years later and made a better grade which wiped out the bad grade; however I still have one bad grade on my transcript pulling my overall gpa down. I made A's in A&P I, II and Micro and scored 124 on the NLN and I start the program this week. A's in A & P and Micro will pull up your gpa. The science courses are the most important for your admission index score. Good Luck and I hope this helped.
  5. I just called Southwest and they have rescheduled orientation until Monday 1/11/10 next week because of the impending snow storm. That only gives us three days before classes start.
  6. micro was challenging in the summer, but it was definitely worth it. i looked at like this. it was certainly something i could handle for a month. it went by very quickly and i found myself wishing i had more time because we skipped over a lot and it was very interesting. i recommend the instructor i had, he was fantastic. he emailed us all of our class notes on powerpoint and that is exactly what he went over in class. i made an a and all i had to do was study the notes i took in class. also ask your a&p i teacher if they think you will be able to handle it based on how you perform in their class this spring. i asked my a&p ii instructor before i signed up for the short term summer session and he really thought i would have no problem. he was right. just take advantage of every study opportunity you have. i think going to class four nights a week helped because it stayed so fresh on your mind. i hope this helps.
  7. Well is everybody ready for orientation? I am so excited and nervous. I can't wait. See y'all soon.
  8. You welcome Jenn.
  9. [Nikki said Hello everyone. If I am wanting to apply for the Southwest Tenn. Nursing program for Spring 2011, do I have to have all pre course work completed prior to submitting my application? For instance, I will not be able to take Microbiology until Fall 2010. I know the deadline is Oct. 15 for the Spring program. Does anyone know if they will consider me as an applicant while waiting on my Micro grade? Thanks!! ] They do offer Micro in the summer term. That is when I took it so I could be done with it by the deadline. They usually offer it for the whole summer or one short term summer session. I took the short term summer class so I could have a little time off from school. It was five weeks long four nights a week but it was worth it.
  10. [i was going to do the drug test listed on the sheet that is on Poplar avenue.] JennShort FYI I saw the drug test center on the criminal background sheet; however the letter states that our drug screen must be done at the American Esoteric Laboratory (AEL) located at 5846 Distribution Drive, Memphis, Tennessee 38148 ONLY (901) 405-8200. The cost is $40.00 You may want to call the school and verify just to make sure. I just wanted to let you know so you don't have to take it twice, since that is what the letter states.
  11. Thanks.......I thought we would have to have it ordered before orientation.
  12. Does anyone know what is supposed to be in our nurse kit? The order sheet they gave me had all kinds of stuff on there, and I was just wondering if we need it all right now.
  13. I will be praying that everything works out for you so you can participate in the program jenn.
  14. I got in too. They called me Friday the 13th. I am so excited. See you all in the spring. Congrats violet and jenn.
  15. I applied to SW for Spring 2010 also. The waiting is killing me, and now I read that last year people weren't notified until after Thanksgiving...... arrrgh. I will be dead by then from the anticipation LOL:lol_hitti. Good Luck to everyone. Maybe we will here something soon.....keeping my fingers crossed.
