New TEAS V Science Section

Nursing Students TEAS

Has anyone taken the latest version, the TEAS V? My test is coming up April 6. I have the ATI version V study guide, and the McGraw Hill book.

What should I be sure to study when it comes to the latest version of the test?

hey hurleygirli1,

did you only use the ati study guide and the online tests? have you been out of school a while (sorry if too personal I am trying to gauge what factors affected your score)

Does anyone know what kind of formulas or conversions they provide on the science and/or math section? The practice exams have some but I am not sure what will be on the real one??

For any of you that have already taken the TEAS V how did it compare to the practice exams in the ATI book??

VERY NERVOUS!!!

Does anyone know the National Average for the TEAS V?

The national average when I took it last weekwas 62, I got an 88 but studied a lot. The science was pretty difficult. It had details that I didn't think would be covered, for example cranial nerves, and kidney filtration. Hope that helps a bit.

The national average is 63.3% according to my score sheet.

As for the practice exams from the book, the english and reading are pretty much what you will see on the test. The math was similar to the test. The practice exam for the science section was way off. The science questions on the test were a lot more involved and detailed. I was panicking while taking the science portion b/c it was so hard, but I surprisingly did pretty well.

I spent so much time memorizing formulas and conversions and on the test they actually gave the conversions we needed to answer the question! There were only a few questions that required conversions in the first place. When you're taking the math section, make sure you keep track of time! When I took the practice exams, I always had about 15 min left over but on the actual exam, I was doing the work so slowly and carefully that I almost ran out of time on the math.

To whoever is taking the exam: Relax! You will most likely do better than you think you will. Don't get discouraged while you are testing either even if you think you're doing badly. I was worrying so much for no reason - I got an 86%

Good luck :monkeydance:

Couldn't agree more with digiti!!! That's exactly how I felt!! If you buy the ATI practice tests they really do help even though they are expensive. I would just study the science intensely, refresh on the other sections and you will do great!!

another bit of advice for test takers...

I thought some of the questions were a bit wordy, and worded differently than we're used to, so read them carefully.

Also, It seemed to me like a lot of the science that i studied inside and out wasn't even on the test...:crying2:

I think I made some dumb mistakes in the English section because in my head i knew I was almost done, and I might've gone thru a bit too quickly. With Math as the exception, there's more than enough time for all, so take your time!

I hope that helps. :twocents:

ps...I recommend studying hypotenuse and work rates!

Hi everyone! I just took the TEAS V this morning and here are my pleasing results.

Adjusted Individual Score: 88.7%

ATI Academic Preparedness Level: Advanced

Mean-National: 63.3%

Mean-Program: 68.9%

Percentile Rank-National: 99

Percentile Rank-Program: 97

I scored a 100% on the math portion and only missed one in the language. WOOT!

I'm very pleased with these results. Here are a few tips that may help. I ordered the ATI TEAS V study guide as well as the two online practice exams. I read all the sections of the book and then took one (of the two) exams that are in the back of the book. After i graded the practice exam i went back and studied my weak points. Once i brushed up on those points i went and took one of the online practice exams. I took one of the book and practice exams about 3 weeks before the exam and then studied my weak areas. A week before the exam i took another practice exam again and then took the online practice exam the day before the actual exam, also studied my weak areas after each exam. This helped to drill in the concepts that were tricky.

Exam 1 book: 84%

Exam 1 online: 80.7%

Exam 2 book: 86.6%

Exam 2 online: 74.7%

The online practice exams were significantly harder than the book versions. I'm not sure what happened with the last online exam, it just seemed a lot harder than the first.

The official exam seemed to be quite a bit easier than the online practice exams, but on par with the book exams in difficulty. Both the online and book practice exams will give you a very real example of what the actual exam will be like. If you take all four practice exams you will see a lot of reoccuring questions types that you may see again *wink*. Overall, the study guide provides you with a pretty good coverage of info that you will need to know for the exam. You may see things on the exam that you do not see in the study manual, but the manual will atleast provide you with enough info to make an educated guess.

Anyway, just study study study, take your time on the exam and READ EACH QUESTION CAREFULLY...i can't tell you how many times i answered a questions wrong on the practice exams because i rushed the question and overlooked pertinent info that led me to answer it incorrectly; of course, this helped me to be on alert for these types of questions on the actual exam. Well, hope this helps.

P.S. sorry for the bad grammar. I'm just excited i did much better than i thought i would! YAY!

Congrats on your great TEAS score!!! and thanks for the heads up on studying, I am approaching it in a similar way. I need to brush up in some areas before I plop down more money for the version V online practice tests (A & B). I'm getting nickeled and dimed with all the testing fee's and applications at this point! You've made it past the TEAS though, I'm envious, at least you are at the point that you CAN apply. Go get 'um girl....

Thanks HM2DOC for your thorough explanation on your your approach to the TEAS!

I used both the study guide and the online practice tests. The practice tests provide you with a list of areas you need to work on that correlate to the topics in the study guide. Very handy!

I ended up scoring a 76 overall adjusted on the first practice exam and an 86 on the actual TEAS with about one full day of study time.

The material in the book very closely matched the material on the actual exam and, to a lesser extent, the practice exams. I would highly recommend getting the book and at least one practice exam.

Think of the first online practice test as more of an assessment. If you are planning on studying from the TEAS V book, the assessment will tell you what areas in each subject that you need to study up on.

Best of luck!!
