Hello fellow NPs,

I hold an RN license in both NJ and NY. I'm 4 months away from finishing my RN-BSN with Chamberlain online. Need some clarification in order to help me make my decision.

1) Eligibility to both schools? Ive read in other posts that if you don't live in Boston you cannot attend either programs:down: is this true?

2)Which school do you recommend and why?

3) Provide preceptors? or no?

4) Require onsite clinicals? Is it really all online?

5) Any extra info you would like to share

Thanks in advance! any comments or info is greatly appreciated.

I applied to both schools. I am also looking for people to state pros and cons of each of these programs. You do need to find your own preceptors for both, that I am sure of.

So imho the NP school you go to is of little significance, gasp! ;) Much of what I learned was only the icing on the cake of my years as a psych nurse on the floor actually seeing the first hand effects or side effects of many of the medications I am now responsible for prescribing. And diagnosing? Absolutely to be able to easily sort out the difference between a battered woman with PTSD vs anxiety who is disorganized and hypervigilant, but not suffering from ADHD, as diagnosed by an inexperienced clinician, duh, also invaluable. And yes I have seen that more than once, sigh. Check out the threads about pros vs cons of finding your own preceptor. I personally liked it better because I had a ton of professional contacts I was able to utilize to provide an individualized educational experience. Best of luck to you both.

Yea same here Future PMHNP! Thanks Jules A for your feedback, just to clarify, your currently enrolled in a PMHNP program, and if so which program?

I'm a practicing NP. :)

Aswesome! Congrats! @JulesA, which school did you attend? Please elaborate on your everyday basis job details. Thanks in advance!:)

Call each school to see if you can attend if you live in MA. Determine the cost of attending each school. Is this an issue for you? I was accepted at both schools and a few others. Ultimately I chose EKU. requires on campus visits several times throughout the program. I work FT and have a family. This was not realistic for me. EKU is completely online. Yes, you find preceptors for both programs. EKU is a much more affordable option for me and so far I like it very much. Feel free to PM if you need info.

Thanks mtsteelhoorifice! But I actually took a left turn and decided to stay in CCN FNP program. At the end of the day FNP is more marketable and I can always do a post masters in PMHNP.

Thanks again!

Hello Everyone! decided to stay with PMHNP! so once again any suggestions?

Anyone have any input? I'm applying to both schools not sure if I will be accepted to both, but I'm not sure which one to go with. costs a bit more even with affiliate discount, but I would be willing to pay the extra cost if the education is better.

Well, EKU has 100% pass rate on ANCC for the past 7 years or so....Also, it is ranked #18 in online Graduate Nursing programs by US News and World Report... It beat Georgetown, , Vanderbilt by a landslide....and many more...You need to be a good student to be successful--put a lot of time and effort in to the work...Self motivated and dedicated...It's not spoon fed by any way shape or means, but EKU has taught me a lot...I am in my second year and just started my clinicals....I loved my first year! We had some really involved and caring professors...Good lectures, live sessions on line...One professor, even scheduled an online session when we wanted clarification..She was AMAZING!!! NP Grad school is tough--it's also time consuming...I know it will be worth it in 15 months!!!

Hello Buggysmom

I am an FNP and I am looking at getting my post masters certificate in PMHNP. I am applying to UC Cincinnati and possibly EKU depending on the start schedule. It seem that you have had a good experience with the program?

Is the online coursework asynchronous or do you have to log on at certain times for lectures or other assignments?

Did you have to make any visits to the campus? I am in Texas right now so one of the things I am looking for is not having to go often or at all which I believe Vanderbilt and South Carolina seem to want require more visits. UC Cincinnati just has two days during the first semester.

Thank you and good luck
