What was your very first Nursing Job?

It was 1996 and I got hired to work at an inner-city community clinic fresh out of Nursing school. I LOVED that place! Learned so much there and got to do a lot- pediatrics, pre-natal, teen clinic...spent almost 4 years there before going to Grad school to get my NP in pediatrics.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Oncology, School Nursing, OB.

My first job was on med-surg on nights in the early 90's when we still wore white nursing uniforms and patients smoked in their rooms. Our lab sheets didn't have normal ranges on them so you had to use cheat sheets (no phone apps to help) and all our charting was done on paper with a different color of pen depending on which shift you worked.

I just got my first nursing job as a new grad in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit. I'm the first new grad who got hired directly to the unit with no experience (and didn't have to complete the year long new grad program they have), so it's been a little intimidating at some points. A lot of wound care, ventilators, bowel care, ostomy's, and foley's. Everyone on my unit has been very nice and helpful though, so I'm looking forward to a lot of learning and growing as a nurse.

Still work there f/t 11-7 a at a long term care/AL/ILU center. Love it, but love school nursing more. Even when I go f/t school nurse, I'm staying on here per diem for call outs because I just can't leave this place.

Per diem psych ER. It's a smallish hospital/SNF in a bad area with the only psych ER in the county. I hated it. Now I'm working at the only Women and Children's hospital in my area (the next closest is like an hour away so it's very hard to get hired here - it took me 13 months after my HR interview to get interviewed by a unit manager) and I love it!

Specializes in School Nursing.

I left the NICU to become a school nurse but I still pick up one weekend a month because I am still not ready to quite let go. :nurse:

Took a registered nurse intern position in the Neuro ICU straight out of college. I loved it and learned a lot on that unit.

I start my first job next week. Full-time days at a LTC/Rehab. The closer it gets to my start date the more nervous I get.

Specializes in keeper of tiny humans.

Private practice OB/GYN, worked there for 5yrs- 3yrs as MA, 2yrs as LPN. Loved the job and patients, hated the drama!
