Insert GIANT eye roll

So I am manually entering all of our Kindergarten students into Power School and I catch a student who still needs DTaP #5, MMR/Varivax #2, IPV #4 and ALL Hep B. She has had all the other vaccines up until the 15 month shots. So I just called the mother to ask if perhaps the records she gave me were incomplete (child had a full physical in March and many times the clinics will not note the vaccines the child was given that same day). She says "Oh, we no longer vaccinate for religious reasons" :banghead: So she has had every other vaccine up until the boosters and suddenly their religious beliefs prevent them from completing the series. Give me an everloving break.

Missouri changed things up just a little bit a few years ago. Before, school nurses were allowed to keep and give out the exemption cards. Now, parents are encouraged to go to the Health Dept or their Doctor, so that they can be educated better about the shots. (And, I do not want the responsibility of doing the educating, in case I didn't cover enough and a parent decides to blame ME for the kiddo getting sick with something that is vaccine preventable). I was SOOOOO glad about this. I had inherited some exemption cards from the nurse before me that worked out of the Health Department-- I dropped those things in the trash like a hot potato. Currently, our exemptions are for Medical and Religious- and in Preschool- a "Parent Exemption" is also allowed. When they get to be K-12 grades..the "Parent Exemption" suddenly becomes a Religious Exemption. Makes me just shake my head E.V.E.R.Y. T.I.M.E. !

Nope.

Varies State by State, School District by School District, and really even school by school. In my state, I am supposed to "exclude" but our school really tries hard not to.

While I would prefer everyone to be up to date with the vaccines - my opinion doesn't matter to some parents, honestly I really don't care about parents reasons/excuses regarding not getting the immunizations. Just don't be that parent that fights me on the paperwork - either get the immunizations in a timely manner or provide me with the proper documentation from the state - Do not make me harass you for the documentation - just get it done and nobody would even bother you/question you about the reason or beliefs behind the decision....at least I don't.

THIS>>>>>E.X.A.C.T.L.Y. I wish they all had their shots too, but, I know that I am not their parent and I respect that. A lady that I work with that takes care of some of my duties when I am not in the building. She has beautiful, well-loved kids. One of them has terrible allergies, they have chosen not to vaccinate her. We have talked about it several times, she is almost apologetic. She knows I am the "Shot Police". We respect each other's opinions and reasons ...I have a job to do as the school nurse, and she has a job to do as a very loving mother. I just tell her, "We all have our "thing". When she asks my opinion, I give it to her, out of concern for her little one with no shots...especially with whooping cough and when the measles outbreak happen(ed). She also hates the flu shot, and declares she didn't get it last year, and was the only one in the building that didn't get sick last year...OoooKay.

So my state allows us to grant provisional admission as long as there is one dose of everything and the students are "actively" in the process of receiving the rest. They apparently have 12 month to receive the shots to get onto interval schedule. So I generally don't follow this unless there is a compelling reason (like next shot due is a not at time of admission) and will require full compliance before i will allow admission. Do you guys think my interpretation of this is correct? I say if the student is due for a dtap and a polio then to begin, get the dtap and polio. None of this "we're going to schedule it at his next physical" stuff because that never happens and then I'm left holding the non-compliance bag.

Yassssss!!!

Oh, indeed. I have a 6th grader who was vaccinated all the way up until dad's 2nd marriage to a tree-hugging, non-vaccinating hippie and now this kid receives absolutely no OTC meds, no gluten, and no vaccines. Where in the heck did this girl's bio mom go because I want to find her and shake her?!?

I have another student who's mom sends a long, judgey letter each year explaining why he shouldn't have a PPD or any vaccines. I'm certain my eyes will either get stuck in the back of my head or my brains will explode out of my skull each time I read it. The Hep-B explanation gets to me the most: "The Hepatitis-B vaccine protects against a disease that is only transmitted through multiple sexual partners or street IV drug users. The acceptance of this vaccine promotes sexual promiscuity and immoral behavior in direct contradiction to the teachings of my faith."

Ohmigawd...don't even get me started. So, since I got the Hep B vaccine, that means I'm gonna ho-bag it up on the corner. Not because I'm at risk caring for people in the most compassionate and selfless of careers that even exists. And while I'm ho'ing it up, I'm probably injecting drugs with dirty needles from all my ho and pimp friends...aargh, I wanna punch this chick in the face every time I see her but she's too busy working on her Master's in PUBLIC HEALTH!!!

LOL!!! I can't!😂😂 hello best friend! Nice to meet you lol

Ewww.

this though :D my thoughts exactly on that front!

i always hope people with these views accidently on purpose get smacked upside the head a few times ugh
