The mile run-- hold me!

Ugh. The kids have their mile run today. I have had literally 25 kids in here, trying to get me to write them passes for gym. I don't write passes unless they have a note from home with a clear reason why they can't participate. The students and parents are all aware of this policy, and it isn't new.

Also, I'm 38, out of shape, and tired. I can run a mile, so can they. They can go as slowly as they'd like, they aren't graded on speed. They just have to do it.

Also, the parents that write notes like "Please excuse my baby from gym today, he has travel hockey tonight and we need him to save his energy..." Ugh!

Today is PE day. My Principal is filling in, he is my age, no going to the nurse without blood or deformity. He does dodge ball. I love that man.

NJ required it every year you were in school. We only require one year in MD (combined PE and health) but due to some odd accounting it ends up taking the kids three semesters to do get it. I think over in VA it's two years.

I had an academic exemption from PE for most of high school. But not my senior year. I chose to take "individual sports" since I am not competitive and did not want to be in a team setting where my lack of athletic skills would affect other, more competitive students. BUT unlike the name implies, we still did a lot of "partner" sports (tennis, relay races) which annoyed me since the whole reason I chose that class was so I wouldn't be paired or grouped with anyone.

I'm still that way- I like running and now crossfit as opposed to team based sports (basketball, soccer). Severe anxiety makes me worried that I will let team members down.

That was one of my classes, one was team sports and one was individual sports, different semesters. I didn't mind it, I was just really horrible playing in a team sport because I wasn't good at aiming.
