Halloween is on Friday this year! No bellyaches from too much candy tomorrow! Happy Halloween!!

Well, Halloween started Monday at our school! Tummy aches all week, culminating with the parties each class had after lunch. I'm so over it!!!! The kids were wound up like tops! AAAGGGHHH!!

I only had one student yesterday complain of bellyache...thank goodness. BUT we did have aggressive, competitive, entitled room mom's causing issues all day. Each grade has a "fall party" and the homeroom mom's coordinate it. A few grade levels said they were not going to have anymore parties this year that allowed parents to come and help. Sounds good to me!

We had 1 parent pitch a fit in front of the other parents in the front office because the secretary told her her child could not carry a welding gun as a part of their costume. Yup, a real welding gun. In elementary school.

(sigh)

Oh, moms fighting over the rolling carts to bring in their 200 pounds of homemade goodies.... also they were fussing with the front office trying to go back to the classes earlier than the specified time. We had one group of moms that actually changed the grade level party time without consulting with the teachers and they scheduled the party to last for 3 hours. All of these attitudes in front of kids walking up and down the hallways. Now I know where many of my students get their sense of entitlement. Ugh.

Oh, wow... I wish I could say I'm shocked at this behavior, but unfortunately I'm not.

I've been asked to look at something called our "Wellness Policy" . . . . . which is a policy to address Federal and State Mandates regarding food (cafeteria/vending machines/etc.) and exercise, just to name a few. I had no idea this was a mandate. We have to write up a new policy but in looking at the old policy, the food manager and I saw that we do not follow much of the policy.

In the policy, there is to be no homemade food brought in by parents. Friday, lots of homemade goodies.

Vending machines cannot have soda - only water and real fruit juice or Gatorade-like drinks.

You cannot use "recess" or anything that keeps children from exercising as punishment. So, why do kids have to be "on the wall" at recess or lunch for doing something wrong in class?

The person who will be auditing us in a month came last week to tour our district and give us pointers . .... we have some stuff to do to get ready for our audit.

One of the reasons I am glad to be leaving this job in the future - bureaucracy.
