Curious - how many of your student were absent for the Day Without an Immigrant?

Just curious - not trolling!

My school had an average absence rate.

I have never heard of this. Also, we don't have any immigrants here.

We had about 40 kids absent in K and 1st, and about 40% of the population from 5-12. Impressive! A few of our teachers were out as well with full support from administration.

Darn, I could have stayed home. I wish I would have known.

Nothing significant in my school district. The school district my mother works in had up to 50% absent in some schools. She works in my hometown which is predominantly Hispanic and/or migrant workers (I say and/or because there are also Hmong immigrants who are migrant workers).

I heard about it listening to the news this morning...I had not idea yesterday was a "day without immigrants"...our local news said a few high schools in DAllas had several students out and interviewed a few.

Maybe we could organize a Day Without School a Nurse protest, peaceful, involving Bud Light.

I reread this and hope it doesn't come off as insensitive. I live in a predominantly white, small midwestern town. We welcome anyone....they just don't want to come here ;)

My school is nearly 70% Latino, half English-learning (a good majority of my calls to parents are made in Spanish) and we had about 10 absences yesterday that clearly stated they were in suppport of the protest! It was interesting to go back and look as I did not see these notes when I looked yesterday morning.
