SICK of BSN Pedestal

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

Get off the Pedestal with the whole BSN vs ADN thing. A fact this is overlooked is that ADN does the same job as BSN and passes the NCLEX. Everyone then cried ADN is uneducated blah blah. WHY dont we look at the 4 year universities instead? Why doesnt the BSN itself advance? Because taking an extra gym glass doesnt deserve it. Look at all the worthless pre reqs that you BSN's are taking over the ADN. It isnt making you a better nurse its all about the money the school systems are a business. We need to change the education system. SWAP out that spanish you are going to forget the second after the test and take some critical thinking. Be gone with that Open elective to take baking class and replace it with PSYCH. The problem is the ADN is a efficient degree with time/pre-reqs and the BSN is created to give the "big man" money. Sorry if you wasted 100k in debt.

why are hospitals going magnet? because the universities are lobbiest to the hospitals. Universites need there money and they dont like ADNs getting the jobs BSNs are getting for a fraction of the cost. Universities have paid, persuaded, and convinced hospitals to go magnet and it is not because 4 year nurses are better.

IF universities ever decide to stop the worthless pre reqs and uni requirements then maybe one day a BSN nurse would have a true advantage.

If your so upset then go get a BSN. You are ignorant and know good and well nobody takes gym classes at a University. Im also pretty sure everyone has to take Psych. Its more than a few electives. Try leadership and assessment and critical thinking/Theory. Some of its bs and some is actually useful. Everyone should want a better education =money power respect. In a nutshell. Im a STNA in school for my BSN then DNP. Its not a race, do what you have to do and follow your dreams

This dead horse. Who cares, I think it would be wonderful for all nurses to hold advanced degrees, we work alongside other healthcare professionals who have gone through years of schooling. It irks me when people complain of ADN Vs BSN, Im in an ADN program and quess what, I plan on going straight to my BSN. If you dont want to further your education, kudos to you, however dont knock others who have or will.

That's funny...I took a gym class in college. It was one of many required "electives" needed to obtain a bachelor's degree. There were many to pick from, see, because there are people who major in physical education.

The college I attended before I went into nursing (with an entirely different major) required two PE (gym) courses for any baccalaureate degree. Plenty of people are taking "gym classes at a University."

"Just 39% of four-year colleges said students had to meet physical education requirements in 2010, down from about two-thirds in the 1980s and '90s and a peak of 97% in the 1920s, say researchers who checked the websites of 354 randomly selected schools. The numbers were lowest at public colleges and universities."

Colleges' physical education requirements fade away

IMHO, it's unfortunate as nurses have a lot to gain by learning healthy living habits to educate patients.

my ADN, less than 7.5K, my BSN less than 5K. Tuition reimbursement from job.

If you are tired of the BSN pedestal, don't get one.
