Nursing Students ADN/BSN

To the ADN nurses who went back to complete school to get your BSN did you have difficulty studying and focusing on your studies because you were now working full-time? are there programs out there where you can get your BSN in a year?

Specializes in ER/ICU/STICU.

I did all of my classes online except for the senior clinical. I went and did a clinical rotation at my county health department.

I left my full-time job and worked part time/per diem to go to school full-time but most of my classmates were working full-time. Yes, I did my RN-BSN at Chamberlain in under a year. Good luck!

Tanzanite, I'm graduating with my ADN this May and am looking into the RN-MSN online program at Graceland University. The application deadline for Fall 2012 is this May (I will be 12 days from graduating on the deadline for application, obviously not having my license yet) do you think they would accept someone so new? It seems like an awesome program....Thanks!

I got my ADN in May 2010. I just graduated with my BSN from the university of central oklahoma in December 2011 so it took about 3 semesters for me to finish taking classes part-time. I did all this while working fulltime in my first RN job. Initially I searched for an online-only program but I needed less credits here, plus it was cheaper . This program in not online, basically it's traditional class for one night a week, they try to make accommodations for the working adult. I didnt find it majorly difficult except the practicum requirements, essentially the student is on their own. A friend who graduated at the same time as me in both instances went to texas tech university and the program is entirely online.

I already completed all the nursing parts for BSN excepting have to take one last exam. I did not work while attending BSN. I cannot imagine having children as I have a baby to take care of my own and juggling work and school. It is doable but to certain extent. I am glad I chose to do it before start working. Now I am working and not have to worry about books, assignments, etc. I did fulltime; however, it depends on the school. Some schools like mine required additional courses on top of nursing.

This thread pertains to my interests. :)

Health care is rapidly undergoing massive changes and we've yet to see even the tip of the iceberg. I'm interested in the political realm, as well as the business/functional realm of health care delivery. Being very pro-nurse, as well as pro-hospital, I'd like to be involved hands on in the process.

We nurses are going to have to be involved like never before, adapt, make concessions, adjust our expectations, advocate for our profession, or be eaten.

Can't decide if RN to MSN is the way to go, and/or incorporate a degree such as risk management.

And perplexing to me as well: will I ever see a return on my investment? Paying off today's student loan burdens are not what they were in the 90's. I'm peeved with myself for not going on to at least my BSN years ago...but life and all...

How feasible is it to get a 4.0 with Chatham's program if there are no exams?

You are graded on papers, so there it is not like grades are being given out arbitrarily. I went to Chatham full time, 2 classes per 8 week session for 9 months and I had a 3.7 when I graduated. Getting a 3.5 or better wouldn't be difficult

I worked full time night shift through my entire ASN-BSN online program. I also changed jobs and went through a 5 month ICU orientation and completed 69 hours of AACN's ECCO program at home while in school. I graduated with a 4.0, but I don't have kids.

Specializes in Nurse Scientist-Research.

I started working on coursework through Excelsior College January 2012, did about 20 credits of leveling courses in 6 months (some credit by exam, some online courses). Started nursing courses May 2012 and went at it heavy until January 2013. I was a little burnt out, took a semester off. Restarted May 2013 and graduated December 2013. Working full-time, no kids. Final GPA 3.9.
