Would Cheat in an Online Course?

I am currently taking an A &P course online (I am taking it at a community college that offered the lecture online). I took my first quiz today and made an okay grade without looking at my notes. When I told my husband, he ask why I just didn't cheat. I told him I want to feel like I learned something out the class. Also I guess I am kind of a nerd lol, j/k. If given the opportunity, would you look at your notes for each quiz and test? Or try to study and then take the test?

I should clarify that I am not calling anyone a cheater for using notes. I am sure we all would use them since it is online. Our test are timed and the final exam has to be taken on campus. I was just if people felt about using the notes. The professor sent us an email stating that he wouldn't advise us to use our notes because he would know if we did use them.

Just out of curiosity do you find online classes easier or harder? I took an online course last semester and it was ridiculously easy but so was the regular classroom... How do you like your online classes?

I took my first online class this summer. We had lots of quizzes, plus 2 online tests and 2 proctored tests. I didn't learn anything at all in that class. I am a fast test taker, so I knew I'd have time to use my book. I made an outline with page numbers for where all the info was and took the at home stuff finding all the answers in my book. Well, guess what? I didn't retain any of that information. Lesson learned.

Can I just interject that the MOST troubling part of the post -to me anyhow -is the response of the spouse?

My Chemistry class is great it is a hybrid class our quizzes are timed but we can use our materials. You still need to know your stuff because you will still do bad if you don't. It is not multiple choice so that makes it harder. We will be able to use our books and all material on our final so that is great. This class seem manageable so far.

See in this case you ended up cheating yourself. I'm scared of that. So that is why it is good to know your stuff and use notes for reference. I feel that is how it will be in a job as a nurse. You have to know your stuff but you will never know everything so you have reference material to back you up when needed.

We had a&p tests online and they weren't proctored. However, the teacher stressed that looking at notes was academic dishonesty. However there was no magical camera that recorded what you did. The system didn't track if you opened up Google in another window. I assume most people looked at notes. But it was never talked about.Guess you'll have to do what feels right.

If you are given a test online for an online class, usually you can use your notes and book. If the teacher did not want you to, they would make you come in to take the test. I have taken lots of online classes. All but one would have all the tests online. The other class did the quizes online, but the 3 major tests we had to go to the school for.

I did have one teacher who made her tests quite large and gave you little time to do it. This was her way of keeping us from looking up too much info in our books.

a friend took a blended A&P course. part of the online content were quizzes. they were timed but she has a learning disability and is given extra time. this professor also let his students use open book, open notes and even lets his students call (!) for help. she called me and we spent an hour and a half taking a quiz together. by the end of those 30 questions I was ready to kill the Prof and I wasnt even his student! it was very detailed and we both knew she would have failed that quiz if we didn't do it together. she (well really we) ended up getting the highest mark in the class lol. I think if a prof gives an online unproctored test, students will find a way to use notes/materials unless they are timed and leave very little wiggle room to finish even w/o notes

I took blended courses but they only had exams which were proctored on site like any regular course
