Working full time and getting pre-reqs done...

I'm sure it's doable if you have it well organized. I work fulltime and taking pre-reqs also. My two summer classes will start this June and will last for 8 weeks. They are Nutrition (on-line) and Dev Psych which are fun courses. My plan is to start NS Fall of '09. Registered for A&P 1 for this fall and A&P 2 for Spring '09. Microbiology for summer '09 and that's the end of my pre-reqs. I'm doing it with a 3.5 yr old son and a husband who works long hrs 7 days/wk. Crazy..I know but I'll manage 'cause I want it bad enough. Plus, I have a desk job and my work is flexible as long as I get my work done.

i am doing it now. i have 4 classes, cna class in the evening and i am working full time. i also have kids. believe me, it is possible. do not get discouraged. i still have time to go out, meet with my friends, go to the park with my kids, cook 3 times a week and clean my house. i also maintain all as in all of my classes. any advice i can give you is to believe in yourself and work not only hard, but smart too

It is most certainly doable. I worked fulltime and took 12 hours the first time I was in college (pre-kids). I worked fulltime (nights) with 2 kids (days), and went to school 2 evenings a week (while going through a nasty divorce). Luckily I could study while at work so that helped. I'm going back and I'll be taking my classes online but I now have 3 kids and a fulltime job. My husband is an over the road truck driver so he won't be home to help very much. Luckily, again, I have a job where I can study (if I can stop talking so much).

Working fulltime and taking a few classes really isn't that hard, you just have to use your spare time wisely. I use spiral notecard books for notes because I can flip through them while waiting (for anything). I just pull them out while sitting in the dentist chair, waiting for my kids, sitting in traffic, at lunch, etc.

I work full time , I dont have any kids so I have some extra time to study.

I started taking my pre reqs last summer and I'll be able to apply to the program this fall with the 2 classes A&P2 and CHM 110 that I will be taking. But I know that ill continue to take all the Gen Ed classes that is needed for the nursing until I get into the program.

Boy this is tiring:yawn:. It sometimes feels like I have a second job.I know if we keep at it,we will succeed at this goal to become a RN:nurse:

Again, thank you for the encouragement! PurposebyDesign, you are right, eventually we will reach our goal of becoming an RN! Some of you are very lucky to have jobs where you can study. I am a sales rep at a cell phone company so I am constantly working with customers, etc. although I suppose when it is completely dead I will be able to study some online. The only crappy thing about my job + going to school is that my hours suck, I usually work 12:30 afternoon to 9:30 every night. Oh well. Perseverance is key!

I worked 40 hours and took 4 classes. Eng101, PSY101, Biology for Allied Health w/ lab, and Pre-Algebra. Now I work 32 hours and am taking 3 classes but one of those classes is worth 6 credits with a very demanding clinical rotation. The other two are Algebra and A&P I... I have an hour commute each way and two active teenagers with sporting events to attend. My GPA is above average so it can be done. Not a 4.0 but I can deal well with my 3.5

I'm not going to lie, it's tough working full time and going to school full time...but you are absolutely capable of doing it and making good grades at the same time! I work about 32 hours/week, am graduating cum laude May 13 with my B.S.C.J. degree, AND am working towards my nursing degree by taking A&PI w/ lab, a math class, and a soc. class, and I have A's in them all so far. Good luck to you, don't let ANYTHING stand in the way of your dreams!!! :yeah:

Thanks :yeah:for asking this question!! I already have a bachelors in another field, so i have a few prereq's to take and I work full time. Hopefully, I can apply for Fall 2009, even though the school I really want to attend does Fall and Spring enrollment.

Working and going to school is challenging but you can do it.

I work 50 hour weeks and have a demanding family life. I am currently working on my prereqs for nursing school.
