Why is it so hard to get A's?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm trying so hard to get straight A's and it is so hard!! Like as of right now In my first semester of college I have 2 B's and 3 A's but it's not enough.

Just last week in my Organic Chem class, I failed my first quiz with a D+, but ever since then I have been studying so much in that class and it did pay off for me because I got a whooping 100% on my second quiz (Which put me at a B). But it's still not enough. I'm really good at English but I got a B- on my first paper and I just don't see myself getting good grades this semester. I also have an essay due weekly and I keep getting 90/100 on all of them, an then in my Anthropology class I can't seem to get a 100% on all of writing assignments either...

But I admit I spend hours a day on Netflix and it may be compromising my grades but if I don't have Netflix in my life it would just be all about school and nothing else. I mean if I can't have a social life then at least I have Netflix.

So how did you all get good grades and keep them?

Ummm....the Netflix?

You already pointed out what might be holding you back. It doesn't seem like you would have a hard time getting As if you just worked at it, as you demonstrated from the 100% you got on your second quiz. By the way, how are you in OChem already and it's your 1st semester of college? Just curious. Where I'm at, the first round of Gen Chem is required before getting into OChem (unless you finished that with AP credit in HS which, if that's the case, then this whole thing shouldn't be that big of an issue - except the Netflix!).

Also, it's your 1st semester of college. You're learning how this all works still. Just cancel the Netflix subscription and start it back up once you establish your winning routine. Reward yourself, don't indulge yourself.

Cutting this out would probably give you a better chance of getting all A's. It really varies for each person and what sacrifices you're willing to make.

I'll admit that I don't nearly devote as much time as I should towards my studying, but I retain information quickly, so I have more time to not do anything productive.

Maybe if you cut down on your Netflix hrs?

You are doing bettern I did my first semester in college. I was whooping it up, and having a whopping good time!

Once I got down to it, I found small study groups were helpful to me. I also rewrote my notes. If there are review questions, do them. I've always read for pleasure, that helped me with writing essays.

That's what worked for me. Everyone is different.

Why don't you have a social life?

Good luck, OP.

No, lol I'm taking Organic Chem before General Chemistry because I have a tendency to take on more things than I can handle. And yeah I'm addicted to going to the movies and watching Netflix because if I don't read a novel or watch a movie I tend to get so creative in my head that I would just day dream all day... Yeah, it sounds weird but I'm an introvert and I need to do something with myself I don't like to socialize.

Why don't you have a social life?*

Good luck, OP.

Because I'm an introvert and I'm not really a social butterfly. I'm not shy but I don't talk to people unless they talk to me first or if I have no other choice. Otherwise, I avoid people and conversation.

This is going to be very difficult for you when it comes to doing your initial assessment and establishing rapport with your patients. You have to start the conversation and you have to keep it going and seem trustworthy enough to get your patients to spill the beans for you. I used to think I was an introvert, then I realized that had little to no place in nursing. I had a mentee that was extremely introverted and it held her back considerably with getting a job. You gotta get over that and start talking to people! They're mostly nice, I promise.

That just sounds like a lack of discipline and disinterest in what you're supposed to be studying. I can see doing a little to get it out of your system but you gotta start getting a hold of that monkey in your brain. Sit it down, tell it to be quiet. You don't have time to play.

I considered that if I'm going to be a nurse. I used to be really shy when I was much younger but I grew out of it so I'm hoping that I can grow out of my loneliness for my duty as a future nurse lol.

Maybe it would've been better to take gen chem before ochem. But definitely cut back on the amount you watch Netflix. You may need a creative outlet but if you want all As you can't slack off.

How did your school let you enroll in Ochem before gen Chem and bio? I have a bachelors in Chem and OChem is hard as crap and definitely has prereqs

I have no idea. My professors said we need Gen Chem 1 to take her class but it's not enforced by the registrar to make gen chem a pre-req and that was how I was able to take it. Also I talked my advisor into letting me take it and he couldn't really do anything about it if I could take it or not because their was no official pre-req...
