A few of us were commenting that we need to lose a significant amount of weight. Let's team up and cheer each other on to lose weight, exercise, and get healthy!! We can do it!! :pumpiron:

We can take it 5 or 10 pounds at a time so those of us with a lot to lose won't get discouraged. We can officially start April 1st so everyone can prepare and get their last binges out of the way. :roll

Everyone is welcome!! Let's take back control of our lives and get healthy!! Who is in?! :)

I'm in. My life has been turned upside down in the past 18 months, including a move to a new state and finalizing my divorce yesterday. Through all that I've maintained a 20 lb weight loss :yelclap: but I still have over 100 lbs to go. I will be 40 in Feb and do NOT want to be single, fat and 40! Since I don't expect to be able to change being single or 40, I'll have to do something about the FAT! I was talking to a friend about this just yesterday so your timing is perfect. I've got a long way to go, but every pound that comes off will be a step in the right direction. I've applied to enter nursing school in the fall, and I'd love a thinner me with more stamina by the time August rolls around. As for starting April 1, I'm going to get a running start and begin this weekend.

Thanks cinqly!! Congrats on changing your life. That is wonderful. You sound proud and should be. Pls feel free to cheer us all on every month. That really helps!!

I am definitely doing this with my health as the focus. Being so overweight puts me at risk for so many things and it is time to take control of my body back. I still don't feel as motivated as I should. I think I am overwhelmed by the amount I need to lose and need to set small goals for myself so I can keep on track.

Does anyone else even dream about being fat?! I swear I do. That's how much it worries and stresses me. Last thing I think of when I go to sleep and first thing I think of when I go to bed. It's time to take action.

One thing that I do is measure myself every month. When the pounds slow up it is nice to see the inches continue to come off.

I am a pretty active lady....I ride my bike to work (when the weather permits) seven miles one way...so a total of 14 miles....and when that was happening...I could tell I was at least getting in better shape...

I ran a marathon in 1998...and was so proud of myself....I kept up the running until I came to this area....and then life changed alot! I ended up in such a bad marriage...which I am now getting out of...but I seem to have very little energy for the exercise thing now....my emotions seem to suck all my energy away....I work two jobs....take care of my own household, which consists of a grown son who is between his grad school and law school, and a cat....she's just a sweet heart....and then working on my Infusion Therapy stuff....so with all of that...time is an issue....

now that the weather has improved here, maybe I can get out more....I don't do well in really cold temps....asthsma kicks in....

but I would love to connect with you all...and maybe together, we can encourage a better healthier lifestyle....

thanks!

Count me in...I have tried everything. LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins, Yadda-Yadda-Yadda...I got into a fight with my treadmill the other day...It won and my butt feels like someone or something kicked it! My husband and I started our journey on Monday this week. He is down 2 pounds and I GAINED 3! I don't know why but I did...So, I will continue to exercise and hope for the best. Recently quit smoking, and gave up all WHITE. i.e. Sugar, salt, milk white bread...changed pasta to wheat, etc... Is it possible that I have added muscle weight already? NAH....

I'll join, it would be awesome to have so much support. I have around 100 pounds to lose as well. Summer's coming, and so are the shorts and swim suits. I joined the body challenge? on discovery health.com. Its a great website, and everything is free, they even have recipies. Good luck to every one!

Hi. Some of already have a thread where folks are welcome to join in and share. https://allnurses.com/forums/f240/healthier-living-thread-part-iv-208834.html It's the 4th incarnation of this thread, the first three being 1000 posts and closed to save on bandwidth space.

Good luck to everyone.

Thanks Tweety... should the threads be merged??

I lost almost 50 lbs and have kept it off for a year with WW. I feel wonderful and have soooo much more energy. I had vowed i didnt want to be a fat ol mother of the bride at my dd's weddings. It still takes work but it is second nature now!

The best advice i can give is to watch portion sizes. I eat whatever i want for the most part IN SMALL AMOUNTS!!! I no longer need to weigh and measure but my measuring cups and spoons were a lifesaver when i started. It is amazing how quickly you lose when you watch what you are eating and once it starts coming off you feel so much more motivated!! Good luck to all!!

Heck can I join in too.

I was a tiny thing when I moved over from Australia but have put on approx 20lbs. My life style is different and with the Spring Time here it will be back on my bike for exercising.

I used to run my own aerobics business in Tassie called Beachside Aerobics which was fun. I worked my business around my part time nursing career.

I do not mind helping in regards to gentle exercises etc. Oh did I forget to mention this- My clients called me the Pain Master hahahahaha But gawd they looked good when I had finished with them LOL

Yayyyyyy for getting fitter, healthier and happier.... Did I forget Sexy too?:kiss

I, too, have about 100+ to lose. a friend of mine, who is close in lbs has tried all kinds of things...and is now doing Jenny Craig. she is so impressed with them, they taught her a different way to "diet". right now shes in the beggining stages, 1st week. it is all about calorie control. she has all their meals right now and supplements with fruits, veggies, yogurt, jello, ect. they tell her what to eat and when for the 1st few weeks and let her make decisions after that (i believe i am describing correctly). well, i am very picky and dont have/want to spend the amt of money a week for it, so i am doing what i call ghetto jenny (hope that doesnt offend anyone). i am making my own schedule of what to eat and when, and figuring out the calories....staying on her calorie level...i still eat dinner with family, but cut way back in servings depending on how many calories for that meal im allowed. the snacks between meals help to not be ravenous at mealtime, which is a big deal.

i have also incorporated a workout which includes an elliptical trainer and soon weights and different cardio...but its true, when u cut back and exercise, it helps..ive lost 6 lbs this week, since last fri....and feel very motivated....what makes me optomistic about this "diet" is that i am not cutting myself out of the things i love, just cutting back on portion size, and smart choices (if i dont drink that soda i can have an extra tablespoon of that).

altho i may be becoming a little overboard; as i watch ppl eat, i am imagining how many calories that is counting up and pointing out to myself something else i couldve had instead....maybe thats a good thing tho, as i was not really aware of how many calories i was taking in by grazing, extra helpings, etc etc etc. so this is my journey. gl to all!!!
