What did you do when you got rejected?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I had imaginary thoughts of suicide lol :lol2:. I know. Suicide isn't funny but I was never thinking of acting on it! Anyways.. What happened when you got rejected from a nursing school you applied to?

Edit.

I didn't get rejected from any school yet but I assumed I did. lol

I was rejected based on testing scores the first time around. I did remedial work/got tutored in the area I was weak in. I then took a class for fun to keep sharp. Retook the entrance test, used study guides, researched anything on the net to get tips about that test and reapplied! I am now in nursing school just finished mid-terms of my first semester. Its extremely challenging and Im so blessed to be here, persuing my dream. Just stay focused and keep on keeping on YOU can reach your goals. DO NOT GIVE UP on yourself. Also consider applying to more than 1 school, "dont put all your eggs in one basket". Good luck to all!

Many nursing schools reject applicants the first year they apply. Typically the second year they get in. If you got rejected, just take more classes that can prepare you, and start taking classes toward your bachelor's degree in nursing. It's NOT the end of the world if you do get rejected, just a new starting point.:)

I highly doubt this. They reject you for a reason and its not because its your first time applying. and its not like you have a better chance getting in the second year just because its your second attempt.

100% true I know many peopl who get in on their first try

The application process was one of the most nerve-wracking and stressful periods of my academic career. I got rejected from one program THREE separate times. There's a lot of competition to get into nursing schools in the Atlanta area so although it was disappointing, I just looked for other alternatives. I believed that nursing is the career for me and nothing was going to stop me. There IS a school that will accept you and sometimes it works in ways you least expected.

I have attended my current university for the past three years trying to finish my prerequisites for their nursing program only to discover that I do not have the grades to be accepted into their program. My first reaction to the realization was that I just wasted three years of college trying to get into their program but then my drive to become a nurse outweighed the disappointments. Then I discovered a program a year ago that I never considered before (because it was a private university and I had always led myself to believe that private schools are much more expensive and not worth it for something like nursing) and thought that since they were a private institution, it would be more difficult for me to be accepted. I also discovered that I could have applied to their program a year prior to discovering them because I didn't need some of the courses I took.

Needless to say, I just broadened my choices and applied to other schools. I applied to the private university and got accepted. I feel in love with their program, their staff, and their students. I wouldn't have had it any other way. Although I spent a year full of anxiety and pressure to make straight A's (which I never got), the school found potential in me and actually sought me out to encourage me to apply. I am now waiting to start their nursing program, which apparently has a great reputation with local hospitals (which I'm hoping will work to my advantage) and support the success of their students. I didn't feel that much support from my current university or the school that rejected me three times last year.

It all works out in the end. Keep your head up and focus on your goal. Don't get too wrapped up in the "here and now" and focus on your dream. Sometimes, the best dreams don't come true as easily, but they are totally worth it. Good luck and don't give up! :)

Last semester I took the HESI nursing entrace exam and didn't score high enough to even apply for the program. I had an 80 over all but only a 60 on the A&P portion. This along with many other issues (bf breaking up with me, both cats getting hit by a car, job issues, and other problems) caused me to fall into a DEEP depression. I took the HESI again the other day and I had a friend waiting for me outside the testing center because she was afraid if I scored poorly I really would kill myself. (I wouldn't ever do that but I can see why she was worried). I scored a 92 on the A&P!!!!! I have applied for the nursing program but if I don't get in I don't know what I will do. I NEED to get in.

I got in 2nd time around, and just kept working till I got in...it's ironic that it's so hard to get into nursing school, but even harder to get a job after, at least in my area....but if I had it to do all over again, I'd become a and EMT-B or possibly a medical asst. first while waiting to get in, that will make your job search easier if you have no prior medical experience.

Hi,

I got into nursing school without any preparation. I got kick out. In that time I do think of many things. I blame on my fiance, yell at my family, depress and cried a lot. Then, I realized that it is ok to fail and it is ok to be rejected. There always a place that will take you and accept you. Just keep trying and praying.

Hope things go well!

Thats exactly what my mentality is. Just keep praying :)

I did get rejected to my first choice back in the early 70's. I went back to work for the phone company for a year, saved my $$, applied to several other schools and was accepted to all. Those were the days of the 2 day state boards and I did extremely well on them. I am still working and have no regrets about the first school.

IF I get rejected from the 5 schools I applied to for Fall 2010, I know I will cry. That's a given, just because its something I've been working my butt off for 3 years and I'm just SO ready to get started! :D

So if this happens, I plan to take a CNA course through the American Red Cross over the summer, find a job as a CNA in the Fall, then reapply for Spring 2011. I have worked in a medical setting for the past 2 years as an assistant/receptionist, but I figure working as a CNA will definitely prepare me for the RN program.

If rejected for RN, I will go to LPN instead. They all want me, lol. But so far, I have been rejected for clerical reasons, at three RN programs:

1. App incomplete due to lack of PAX result b/c the PAX test I scheduled for was delayed to to weather cancellation. Test score not available by cutoff date = auto-rejection. School will not budge on this. Says they are swamped with apps as it is.

2. Declined b/c even though I have two degrees and all of the core A&P, micro, nutrition, etc., completed, I did not ever take Soc 101 and that particular school *only* looks at GPA for A&P, microbiology, one math, and Soc 101. Doesn't matter if you've completed engineering and finance and accounting and computer programming. Nope. Gotta have that piddling Soc 101 or you're out. AND, BTW, the school's catalog, admission app, and web pages make ABSOLUTELY NO mention of that. Their actual current selection process is definitely not as described in their documentiation. They "are working on" a new set of admissions criteria for nontraditional or degreed applicants, though. #$%@#$% The glaciers are coming, too.

3. Declined b/c one of my references forgot to mail in the reference form. Therefore, incomplete references by close date disqualified me. Was it a positive recommendation? You bet -- who ever picks a ref that will neg them?? So, dear school, why can't you just blow off the references, please. They are meaningless. Mark "Highly Recommended!! A++++++++" in any part of my score sheet that pertains to references, and look at the more important achievements like GPA, puh-lease.

Youll be fine, i was rejected the first time i applied. I got a C in my Biochem class and retook it and got in. I cried alot (and i mean ALOT) at first, even though i knew i wasnt going to get in because of the grade. Retake the TEAS and apply to multiple schools this time. Give yourself a backup plan. Good luck.
