  1. Thanks everyone for your responses and advice! The more I think about it, the more I realize I have no choice but to be honest and say no to nights, regardless of whether that gets me back to job searching or not. My health is more important! Nights are clearly not for me and I just need to accept that and move forward and realize nights are not for everyone. Here goes nothing.... Fingers crossed for a positive response from my manager!! :)
  2. Hi All! I have been working as nurse now for almost 2 years - 1 year in post acute rehab, 5 months in an oncology office (didn't last because it was a new position and they weren't ready or set up for an RN), and now almost 6 months in inpatient. I worked nights for 3.5 months. Normally, I am a morning person, waking between 5-6 and asleep by 9-10. I also have a history of anxiety. Working nights totally turned my world upside down. I found myself falling into depression and my anxiety become worse. I would cry before my shifts, I wouldn't sleep due to my anxiety. I would be exhausted no matter how much I slept. I even tried setting alarms because I thought maybe I was sleeping too much - didn't work. I had no dive/energy to get myself out of bed and out of the house. When I would force myself, I found myself too exhausted and just wanting to go back to bed. I didn't see friends or family and my relationship really struggled. I felt sick all the time. I was in the process of setting up a meeting with my manager when I was offered to go to days for 2 months to help out since they were short staffed. I still met with my manager and expressed my struggles. Basically, I was told there wasn't much she could do because there were still a couple people in front of me with seniority to move to days. Ive now been on days for a month and can see just how unhealthy nights were. I am energized, I am actually HAPPY on my way to work. I am enjoying my job more. I am rested and back to my normal life. Even my long-time boyfriend whom I live with says I am two totally different people. Now that I can see just how much nights really affected my health, I am at the point I refuse to go back to nights. I plan to meet with my manager again to let her know. I feel I shouldn't sacrifice my entire life and fall back into that dark place again for a job. Any advice/words of wisdom/encouragement from fellow nurses who feel the same or have felt the same? I love the floor I work on and don't want to leave, but my health is more important to me. I would hate to quit. I am also worried if I am forced to quit, it will negatively affect my resume because I would have had 3 jobs in 2 years? Thoughts? Thanks guys!!
  3. Congrats on getting in!!Every semester is different in terms of how many days you spend at class. The first 6ish weeks of the first semester, plan to be on campus 4-5 days a week. For the remainder of the 1st semester, plan on 4 days a week, 2 in class and 2 at clinicals. Clinicals continue throughout all semesters for 2 days per week. Throughout the rest of the semesters, plan on being in class between 2-3 days a week usually. So thats 4-5 days a week. It varies per semester, but is pretty consistent throughout each semester. Hope this makes sense! Congrats again!!
  4. I start Spring 2011!!!
  5. Hey everyone! I was accepted for the Spring 2011 ADN program at Santa Rosa Junior College! Just trying to find others who were also accepted.
  6. That's awesome! This was also my first time applying. I was ecstatic! I knew it was a possibility that I could get accepted... but didn't actually think it would happen! I have been living in Santa Rosa for the past 4 years, but before that, I lived in Lake County for 5 years. I lived here when I was much younger as well. I currently live with my boyfriend of 5 years. Ya, I'm thinking the boxes of books is the best way to go. We will be guaranteed to have the exact books we need. As far as the next 6 months, I am going to finish up 3 GE classes I still need and continue working. I currently work at a small doctors office as an assistant. But once school starts, there is no way I can keep this job (They are only open Mon-Thurs). I'm not sure what I will be doing for work. I think I may be able to get away without working because I have my boyfriend and dad helping me out... but I may need a small amount of loans. Not sure. What about you? Are you planning on working? The schedule for Fall looks intense! Are you from SR? You'll have to keep in touch with me and let me know how your first semester goes and give me any tips/tricks you may come up while in the first semester!
  7. Thanks so much for the great info everyone!!
  8. Oh maybe thats so! Lets get those posts up! :) Nope, no luck yet! Still got 6 months until Spring starts, so hopefully more will make there way here in that time! The first email I got said Fall 2010 acceptance, but I guess it was an error. But I am still happy I am in at all!! I bet you're super excited!! Was this your first time applying? Are you going to be buying the books from the bookstore or seperatly? Ive been debating... Seems like getting 23 required books separately would be tough. I may just get the 2 HUGE boxes of books from the bookstore.
  9. You just click on the persons name to view their profile (I do this by right clicking on their name then opening it in a new tab, or just under their name there will be a little circle with an "i" in the middle, click that). Then under their name on their profile, it will say "Send Message". Click that and it will have an option to send a private message or a visitor message. Hope this helps!
  10. Congrats!! Now where are all those Spring 2011 students!!
  11. Wow... I'm actually shocked. I have never once heard one bad thing about their nursing program. I have heard from many individuals, first-hand that it is a great program. Personally, I think that if what you stated is absolutely true... I think we would be hearing more about the "horrors" of the programs. But that's just my two cents.
