Vaccination & Titers question

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm trying to figure out how to pay for all of this since it needs to be done by the beginning of August. How generally do you have the vaccines done? IE should I have the TB test done before any of the vaccines? Also does anyone know how much titers usually run? I have to get ones done on the Rubella, Rubeola, Mumps, & Chickenpox... :)

i also got all my shots, except for my hep b-- i just got the first in the series. i hope this will not be a problem for me to start in sept.

does anyone think this would be a problem? pls let me know

Hi ERIKALYNN,

I live in TX, and was told by the Director of the Nursing Program I'm entering, that we are required to have 3 Hep B shots. I didn't see what state you're from- but the rules have changed in TX now, allowing you to get all 3 a little faster than before. I've had 2 and need to get my 3rd within the next month. We have to complete the series of shots before we can start clinicals (october). I have to print off the "new"schedule from the dept. of health and take it to my dr. so that I can get it "early". Maybe you can do that, too.

I joined the webiste yesterday & this is my first posting. I was just accepted into a local ADN program at a community college. I have to get my 3rd Hep B, my 2nd Hep A, dentist & doctor forms completed, etc. I'm really excited & a little nervous. I have orientation on the 12th & have to take a pharmacology math test- which sounds scary to me! :o

Anyhow, I hope I helped....good luck getting your last Hep B! :)

Good Luck!!!

HA HA HA....Am I new to this or what? Well I just read my own post and saw that the post I responded to is a year old. Maybe someone else that reads this in the future will be helped. Oh well. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I had my first shot last month, I go in for the next one in two weeks and the last shot 4-6 months after that one. As long as you get them when you're supposed to (your individual school will tell you) you'll be fine. For instance on my health record I had to have a slip filled out and there are two attached slips to turn in at a later date. I'd double check with your program just to cover yourself but I'm sure you'll be fine :)

LOL...I'm sure it's useful for many.

For the lurkers...... I took my first Hep B shot, and my TD booster at the school where I will apply for the RN program. They offer the shots cheaper...whoever is lurking and wondering, may want to look to see if their school offers shots. :)

When I had my titers done my doctor checked for polio antibodies as well. I no longer had any so I had to get a polio shot too. Because of travel lto Guatamala last year, I had a Hep A shot which was followed up with a booster so I should have life long immunity to that.

I'm thinking about getting a Hep A shot anyway....you never can be too careful. :) This makes me wonder about polio. I wonder how much of this you can get at once. I know they are looking into, or have already made a "all in one" shot.

I'm going to make sure they do the PPD first, before giving me any injections.

Today, I made my appt. on August 29th for my physical, ppd, and Hep B....... A little exciting, a little scarey! I have to apply by August 31st. :chair: My CPR class is August 17th.

It's all coming to an end so fast....I'm not sure to be happy or be nervous. ....waiting until October to hear yes or no for NS will be a looooong wait! :) good luck to everyone!!!

Check out your school health services (whatevers the politically correct way to say college nurses office ;))

At my school I know they offer the TB test for $6 to students who require it for a program/class. They may also offer the vaccines at a lower rate if it's required for a school program.

Hello again Erikalynn,

I posted a reponse to this question on the MA section too but I called Quincy College w/ the same question and was told as long as the series was started that was fine. With each additional shot you needed to bring in docs showing the additional shots were received.

See you in sept!

Yeah, I was really surprised when I was told that I did not have any immunity to polio, nor HepB even after three injections. I hate getting shots (I hope I will be able to give them as a nurse) and at the same appt I had to get two shots unexpectedly (hep B #4 and polio).

You should check your schools health office. They usually offer it pretty cheap since when you enrolled, you paid a $15 or so health fee. My school offers all the titer tests, Urine and Blood Analaysis, TB skin test, tetorifice, and physical exam all for $50.

hi everyone if you look for titers, vaccines, and physical exam for nurse students or medical field new job, i just foun a wonderful place where we can have everything very affordable. www.labdoctor.org

I couldn't find my old records so I just used an online company called PrivateMD Labs. I ordered MMR, Hep B and Varicella for $135.12 using a coupon code of "SAVE15" that took 15% off the price (every $ I save is a $ I can spend somewhere else). They sent me to my local LabCorp for testing and I got my results in 2 days.
