Vaccination & Titers question

Do you not have any records of your immunization history from childhood? A TB test is probably pretty cheap or free through your public health dept. Depending on when your last tetorifice shot was, you may need a booster, and to either start the hep B series or get a titre showing immunity if you've never had it - check through public health for those as well. MMR shouldn't be a problem as you should have had them prior to getting into elementary school.

Also will add - if your pediatrician has documentation of a childhood case of chickenpox, I would think that would be enough? Do you still have to have titres?

I'm trying to figure out how to pay for all of this since it needs to be done by the beginning of August. How generally do you have the vaccines done? IE should I have the TB test done before any of the vaccines? Also does anyone know how much titers usually run? I have to get ones done on the Rubella, Rubeola, Mumps, & Chickenpox... :)

We could have ours done at the hospitals Occunet, or we could have our PCP do them and we had to provide documentation. I had my PCP do it, because it didnt cost anything, I think the only thing I needed was a hepatitis B booster. If you had it done at the hospital, there was a charge. Would you like me to post the cost of each so you can get a general idea?

I had chickenpox as a child as well as the vacinnes but I don't have records myself I'd have to get them from my doctor as this was at least twenty years ago. I'm not sure how long they keep records. If no records are able to be found I have to have titers done on all that I posted plus mumps :)

Rubella screen: $17

Rubeola Screen: $27

Varicella Screen: $23

Hep C Antibody: $34

Hep B Antibody: $30

Hep B Antigen: $33

Chest Xray: $45 (we only had to get this if we had a past positive PPD)

MMR Vaccine: $73

Varicella Vaccine (2 doses): $85 each

Hep B Vaccine (3 doses): $18 each

Tetorifice/Diptheria Booster: $34

Mumps Titer: $23

I dont know if this is generally how much these things cost, but I hope it gives you some insight. Also, if we had the hospital do it, they DID NOT accept medical insurance (for reasons Im still not sure why) and they took cash only. We also had to have a physical exam (which was $50, and you HAD to have the hospital do that; your doctor couldnt do that) and a drug test ($45; and we had to have that done at the hospital too). So, I had to pay $95 for the physical and the drug test. I had my doctors office do the bloodwork and give me the hep b booster that I needed. :)

Just a thought, but I got many of my vaccines including tetorifice, TB titer and all of my Hep series through Planned Parenthood. If you don't have medical insurance, they base their fees on a sliding scale, based on your income. Worth a phone call, if nothing else. :)

I was quoted $100 per titer at 2 local labs or $5 per shot through the health department. Guess which route I chose? :chuckle

I could have also done the TB test thru the health department as well but instead I had my PCP's office do it and they never did charge me for it. I didn't see my regular doc for it but rather the nurse practitioner whom I adore. She is psyched about my interest in nursing. Maybe that had somethng to do with me getting tested for free?

I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but I found my city's health service dept. through the Department of Health and got all of my vaccinations done for $55. You should contact city hall and find out. I had to get the TB test somewhere else, but it was only $20 at Concentra Medical where they do employment drug screenings. I could have gotten if free if I'd have gone to the TB clinic, there may be one in your area. I would start by calling city hall.

The local health dept will do them for low cost, and you might check with your student health services if you have one.

Also, check on your TB requirements, we were told it has to be withing 30 days of starting clinicals, so I have to wait until Sept. And it has to be a 2 phase (I guess I have to have this twice?) I will be going to the health dept for this, only 5.00 there.

Word of warning. I had my TB test on the same day as the vaccinations for chicken pox. When I turned my forms into the nursing department, I was told that I would need a chest X-ray because the chicken pox shot, which is a live vaccine, invalidates the TB test. I will give a false negative result. Many doctors do not know this. Mine certainly did not, so beware.

i also got all my shots, except for my hep b-- i just got the first in the series. i hope this will not be a problem for me to start in sept.

does anyone think this would be a problem? pls let me know
