Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Who else is taking it?

Feel free to give background info about yourself. Also please share how you did in A&P 1 and what you learned as far as how to study for it.

I am either going to take 14 or 17 credits, I have until the 19th of January to decide. :) I'm definitely taking: A&P 2, Human Growth and Development (Psych), Med Term, Lifetime Fitness and Statistics. I might also take my second Eng (don't need for ADN, need for BSN later down the road). If I don't take it (I'll then only have 14 credit hours), I'll take it with micro in the summer.I am taking all of my core classes right now. After spring, I'll only have micro left. And then I wait. My CC admits when all pre-reqs and core classes are done and that is based upon when you apply. I applied last August and am hoping for admission to the spring 2011 term, but have recently found out some people who finished their core classes last spring did not get in for this spring. I hope that I don't have to wait too long!

I ended up getting an A in A&P1, I loved my professor! She made things make sense. It helps that she used to be a nurse, so she often related things to nursing. One thing that I used all the time were note cards for lecture and lab. I kept the current ones with me all the time - if I was a few minutes early to pick up my daughter from preschool, I was going through the note cards. I took Lifetime Fitness and would walk on the treadmill for at least a half hour each time and while there would flip through those note cards. It helped keep my mind off of the time and it helped me learn the material. I'm planning on doing note cards again. We can get books starting the fourth of January and I'm excited - I'm going to make up my lab note cards early so that I only have to worry about making up my lecture note cards as the semester goes on.

Looking forward to getting to know others taking A&P2 in the spring! :yeah:

I was wondering if anyone else was taking this during the spring semester. I finished up A&P I with a B. Not really what I was hoping for but I honestly didn't put as much into is as I should have. I will definitely be focusing more in A&P II. It also helps that it will be my only class this semester too.

My last teacher was so-so. I haven't heard the greatest things about this new teacher but we'll see how it goes. Most of the people in my lab/study group from last semester will be taking the same class as well which will be helpful. They were all really great. Note cards were a BIG help for me too. I took them everywhere and looked at them whenever I could. My 6 year old also begged me to read my "body book" (aka A&P Made Incredibly Easy) to her all the time. She enjoys learning about her body and it really helped me to break it down in simple terms a 6 year old could understand. We'd make up songs about things and I caught myself giggling a bit during tests when I was remembering things from our songs.

I have this class, a fine arts elective which I might take as a late start class toward the end of the spring semester, then Micro before I can get in to the program. I haven't decided if I am going to take Micro in the summer or wait until the fall though. Since I have two young kids and a full time job I am leaning towards taking it in the Fall. Hopefully I will be all set for a Spring 2011 entrance into the program! I am so excited!!!

I also made a B in A&P 1, I was actually worried I would get a C. I did great on lecture tests and horrible on lab tests :(. So for A&P2 I know I need to study more for labs. Note cards were my main way of studying, I took them everywhere with me. For spring I'm taking this, Micro, Sociology, & Skiing. Micro and A&P2 are all that I had left to take for core but I needed to make it to full time so I'm taking some extra classes that hopefully won't stress me out!!

I'm really worried about taking A&P2 and Micro at the same time, wish me luck!!

I am going to be taking AP II in the spring along with World History, Developmental Psych, Intro to Philosophy, and World Literature. I'm going to have a full load.

I will be applying for the Nursing program in january. Hopefully, I get in. My main concern is passing the NET. I'm really scared about that. I got a C in AP I. If I don't get in to the Nursing program that I am gunning for than I am going to retake all of the sciences that I didn't get an A in. Hopefully I won't have to go through that.

How do the notecard things work? Do you like write a question on one side and the answer on the other or maybe a keyword? How do you get all that information on notecards?

I got my books already and started reading last night. Also, I am taking Micro and will start reading that book next week. It's funny how I couldn't wait for last semester to be over so I can relax and not think of school, but then I started to get anxious. I needed a CD for my AP class, but the bookstore hadn't received it yet.. I was blowing up the phone at the book store everyday (sometimes twice a day) until they got in the shipment... LOL!

Good Luck:up:

thenameismac....there is a TON of information so as you can imagine I had a TON of notecards. On them I would just put key words, and other things I needed to memorize. For example, on one side would be epiphyseal plates, and on the other side would be what it is. Even things that had many steps, I would write it all on there. I never read my book, I just took info from my teachers notes. But I know for A&P2 that I need to start going from the book too.

My professor tests on what she says during lecture, not from the book. I haven't cracked the book since before A&P1 started! Now, my lab book? The thing was falling apart by the end of the semester!

As for note cards - I write questions with the answers on the back. Sometimes that might be a one word answer, sometimes it was the entire steps of a muscle contraction. I also asked the questions in many different ways so that I could answer a variety of questions - fill in the blank, true/false or essay type questions. It seemed to work for me, when I started doing the variety, my test scores went up from high B's to high A's. So, it's what I'll be doing this semester as well. :)

I"ll be taking A&P II and Chem III this spring. I'm completely excited about A&P II but not really looking forward to chem. Chem seems a little too much like math:eek:.

I got an A in A&P I and honestly the thing that helped me most was my professor's hillarious stories. Having a great prof. is key to your success. Needless to say, I sign up for the same prof. next semester as well. Other things I did to help me study were to record the lecture, (listened to those lectures probably 3 times each and took copious notes) and used flashcardexchange.com to make my own flashcards. I downloaded the flashcards to my itouch and flipped through these everywhere I went. I found this was much easier than carrying around a big box of flashcards like I used to do. You can whip out your itouch standing in line in the grocery store...not so easy with a box.

As far as lab goes, my best method for studying was to get my hands on the models. I don't know how everyone elses lab practicals went but ours were mostly on the models. The people who only studied from their books always did poor on the practicals. I never looked in the book when studying for lab!

I plan on applying to the CNL program at the University of Maryland SON for spring 2011. Here's to hoping for A's for everyone this spring*wine

Great, another reason to want an itouch. :p My professor was also funny. The classes never were a drag, I looked forward to each one and the time always flew by. :)

I passed A&P I with a B...the lab a C. But hey its my first semester in college after being out of school for 2 years. Now i know how to be better prepared for the next go-around ;)

spring '10 ive got a&p2+lab, eng comp2, intro to philosophy& inter alg.

during the fall i figured 'hey the faster i finish, the faster i can apply!' but i ended up overloading and having to withdraw from one class. not doing that again!

overall, a&p was awesome. i had two great professors and definitely learned a lot. the best way (i found) to retain material is to talk about it with other people..i read on someones post they would explain it to their 6 year old daughter... the better you can explain it, the better you understand it! [and the better you can explain it on your exams, too!]

go bulls!

I'll be taking A&P 2 this Spring semester as well. I made an A in A&P 1....(all thanks given to the Lord!) I'll only be taking nutrition with it, but I'm excited to get started. Someone mentioned making themselves tests to study. I found this site and I love it! I just type in the words I need to know and it will make flashcards, then I can play matching games with it and then it will make a test for me and I can chose whether I want multiple choice, true false, etc.

It really helped me out! I also wrote out the index cards with the key words. My professor doesnt teach out of the book either, so he just tests from the notes he goes over in class. I dont think I've ever opened my book to be honest, but like a couple of you my lab book is about to fall apart. Good Luck to everyone :)

anneuhbanana and jennylouwho, you guys were very helpful in explaining notecards to me. I will surely try that and I hope that all goes well. Good luck to all.

rholman, that's how I feel about school. I swear not even a month into the semester I am ready to pull out my hair and am so looking forward to finals being over but then a week later I am so prepared and motivated to start the next semester. It's crazy and funny.
