Should I make a three hour drive?

I was accepted at the Univ of Memphis for this January. I am happy but I need to tak e a math class before I can go. I can take Math 1420 at the school, but I have to drive 3 hours 40 minutes both ways once a week from Oct 19th to Dec 7th. I am hoping for an acceptence from Austin Peay so I won't have to worry about this ( I have all their prerequisites). They mail letters today and they will be here Saturday or Monday. I'm sorry I've written so much about this in other threads, I'm just anxious and my husband doesn't understand and well you all know people who are not going through this really don't get it. So, give me some feedback, what should I do? oh yeah, I applied at 4 other schools, but they won't send decisions until later.

It's a long drive but if it is your only option what can you do but go for it! Once a week is not that bad.

Good luck

Which school would you rather attend? If it's worth it to you to get to go to Univ. of Memphis then do it. If Austin Peay is just as good a choice then maybe you can sign up for the math course until you get the letter from them. I don't know about time constraints of adding/dropping a class so I know that may not be an option. There's good chance that you will be accepted at one of the other schools. Hope you get it worked out!

Will this amount of time become a restraint when your nursing school starts?

Gas money? Just weigh the pros and cons.

Is this the school you really want to go to, or is Austin Peay?

Hopefully, you won't have to worry about it, especially if you'd rather go to Austin Peay! :)

I'd just have to drive for that math class. When the Spring starts I would have moved on campus into family housing, so that's not a problem. I know I will get into Austin Peay or heck MTSU( where I go now) and this will not be a problem. Come on Saturday. thinking positive.

Hello,

Take the course online or find a course that is equivalent online. Call the school and ask them if they offer it online. If not, ask them what course will be equivalent to the course and find a college that has a online math course.

Hopefully, an online course will take care of your math requirement for that college.

Have a great evening and weekend,

Speaking from experience, I left a CC that was very close to home. I transferred to a University, the closest one to me at that, and it is still a 50 minute drive in rush hour traffic. I absolutely hate the drive and it is only 23 miles away. I would seriously consider taking the class closer to home. Call the college 3 hours away and ask them if they will accept the same class from another school or offer it online. I don't know what your weather is like there in the winter, but consider that also. It will be winter time and possible icy and snowy. Maybe you should really, really think about it. It may not seem bad now, but once your committed to it, it might really suck :uhoh21: , I know I am not the only commuter at my school that absolutely hates the commute. I also forgot to mention the cost of fuel that went up by commuting. I have a van, and it costs me 70 dollars a week to go to school now. There is also a 150 dollar charge to buy a parking pass at my University, and I have heard other Universities charge a fee also. That adds up and can be more expensive than you originally bargained for. Just weigh your options. Good luck.

I think that's Pre-algebra from the write up in the catalog? Surely some online course out there is running between now and January, many of the online schools don't use the same schedule. Once a week isn't *horrible* but personally I'd exhaust all other possibilities.

Hello,

Try to find a resolution to your problem do not give up. Because it is important for you to accomplish the goal. If you need this course for other programs than you need to completely the course. It is important to keep your commitment of completing the course and you may be able to work out a situation with your professor. You should call him/her and explain your traveling time each way and if it possible to make arrangements of completing the class by working independently or something. If you could how up for the test. Now if you choose this method you will be responsible for your own learning. Therefore, call the professor and make out an arrangement with him/her for your class.

I would had attend the course much earlier and not wait till now to make a decision that may cost me in the long run. In addition, if I made a commitment to a class, I would not break it unless I found another course for it or time or another program that will offer it and/or it is a course not required by the other programs...then no harm would been done.

Just my two cents,
