Remedieal Math

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Has anyone else had to take remedial math? I am taking it, and I was doing well at first, but on my last test I only got a 65.So i feel really ashamed and disappointed in myself. I am doing well in my Microbiology class/Lab, but in math I am not doing so well. Has anyone been in my position, if you have do you have any good advice? I am determined to learn what I need so I can be a nurse, and any advice would be much appreciated.

You are not alone. I was at a meeting recently in which our local CC leaders told us that >60% of incoming students had to take remedial courses ( math &/or English) last academic year.

if you did well at the start! then you probably passed.. yea a 65 is bad and especially with exams -holding higher percentage of the total grade... stay positive and if you need to retake it - take the class and study like your life depends on it....

Ah.... :o I thought you were done with the class... you still can raise your grades.. just focus don't let the last grade drag you down ... practice.. put 35 mins daily to focus on problems you have issues solving - never give up... math is confusing for me too .... I forced myself to study math in a quite environment ...... super early ... played some classical music and kept my head down until my hour was done... ask your instructor for help... I'm sure your college/uni has tutors available ....

Be consistent with studying.... I received an A for my consistency.... I never had time to review for my midterm and final and still received high grades... if you study everyday you wont stress believe me...

Good luck

When I first started my pre-reqs for nursing I had to take remedial math.....Basic math, algebra I and algebra II. I was horrible at math obviously.

I have my BSN and applying for BSN-DNP program. You can do it. Keep going. You will be fine!

I had to take remedial math classes also my first few semesters of college. Don't be ashamed!! Everyone picks up at a different pace. In high school my math teachers were football coaches or a bus driver who passed you if you showed up. I had a terrible math foundation going in to college. I would get frustrated that I just didn't get it. And to be perfectly honest, 95 percent of the math we were suppose to learn in school is utterly useless unless you go into an engineering, mathematical career. Hang in there. It gets easier I promise!!

I had to take remedial math for algebra 2 and I did really well until closer to the end of the semester. I was up doing math homework for 3-4 hours every night and on YouTube until I understood the problems. All of the math was done on mymathlab which wasn't all that great for me so YouTube was always my go to. I passed the class with a 96. You can do this.

my math course was also an online course (mymathlab) .. the exams were taken on location..

All the above are great answers. You could also find study buddy who is better at math than you. You can also get a tutor.

You will get this, especially since you started out so well in the class. This is a stumbling block for which you need to dust yourself off and keep at it. Review the concepts you were recently tested over. If this class is an onsite one, you can go to the professor and ask what they see you are not getting.

Do you have a student center at your school? That might come in handy. I had to take it before. I'm the type that has to have somebody with me while I physically work out the problem. I can't pick it up fully by watching YouTube. Just an idea. Good luck
