Prerequisites online

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Is it possible to take all prerequisites online, and if so, what schools offer the courses (including labs) that we need? I live in WA state and am hoping to go to Everett Community College if that makes a difference. Thanks!

I take my prereqs online at the same community college I hope to attend for nursing. However, the labs for my sciences classes (A&P, microbiology) are on campus. The theory/bookwork is still online. You will need to contact your college to see if they would accept science prereqs where the labs are mailed to you (and I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't possible for a class like microbiology where you're growing things like bacteria, need access to a Bunsen burner, good microscope, etc...). Your college may be like mine and also offer classes online or in the hybrid format for classes with lab. My math class is online, but they also required I take tests/exams at the test center on campus. My school does not allow online proctoring. All my other classes: English, psych, etc, are 100% online.

Shycat sounds pretty accurate to me. :)

I recently made the switch to go to school for nursing (hopefully mental health), so like you I was wondering if I could take pre-reqs online - also expecting :woot: so online format is just best currently. I moved to TX last December so I do not qualify for in-state tuition as of yet (prior mil trying to use my GI BILL). Which brought me to GMC (Georgia Mil College) in GA (last duty station area) they have a pre-nursing program and allow courses to be taken online. Like Shycat stated, I would suggest making sure the courses will transfer in. They will for my school in Texas. Next courses would start Oct 3! You do not need to be military and they do not charge out-of-state tuition

My school said specifically no online prereq. It depends on the individual place.

First thing to do is call the programs that you intend on applying to and ask them if they accept credits from online courses. Make sure they specify if the lab can be online. If I were you I would ask about Portage too. I never expected to need to use Portage to complete my prereqs, but it ended up that taking Microbiology via Portage enabled me to keep a normal schedule at work.

I took A&P I online at New Mexico Junior College. I'm not a resident of that state and my entire course (excluding books and a few small purchases) was right around $360. A&P I at my local cc is almost $800, so this was a HUGE savings for me. The NMJC course was also a half semester, so it was 8 weeks instead of 16.

There are many online options. The key is finding out what the schools you are applying to will accept. For instance, I was going to take A&P II online with Portage, but one of the programs I am applying to accepts every Portage course EXCEPT their A&P courses. Depending on how many programs you are applying to, you made need to make a chart! :D

Good luck!
